Kite Fest Observation
On April 2, 2016, I volunteered for the event Kite Fest at Wolf Pen Creek. The event was in a perfect location for all attendees to get to. Upon arrival, I identified a designated area for the vendors to park and begin setting up. All of the stations were set up and ready for attendees to visit. The table I volunteered at was the kite making station. This station was the busiest station throughout the entire event. There were two tables for the kite making station. One table was for kite making and the other table was for kite decorating. The kite decorating table was the first spot I started at. I provided the children with several colors to use for decorating their kite. When they were done with coloring, I placed the ribbon of their choice …show more content…
As expressed earlier, several children visited this station so even with 3 people building kites, there were still people waiting for us to make the kits. This could have been easily prevented if we were more prepared. The flow of children in and out of the station would have been more effective and efficient. For following years, I would suggest as well to have a variety of 3 different kite designs to have the children choose from. Some kids wanted their kites to look like a butterfly, something different from the others. People enjoy to have the opportunity to choose themselves rather than given only one option. Overall, the kite making station was a huge success. All volunteers assigned to this station collaborated together. The hundreds of attendees had smiles all over their faces. The weather was perfect for Kite Fest, sunny and windy. I am extremely glad Kite Fest was a huge hit and attendance were higher than the previous year. This could years to come transform into a major event people will travel to for quality family engagement. The final recommendations I would make are to use a different radio station playing music. From class we discussed the reasoning for why the music that was playing was played, but this is a children’s event. More Disney songs, Kids Bop music, or overall age appropriate music should be played. Some families were slightly disturbed by some of the

    2. The pomegranate tree is a symbol of the different stages of Hassan and Amir's friendship. "One summer day, I used one of Ali's kitchen knives to carve our names on it: "Amir and Hassan, the sultans of Kabul.' Those words made it formal: the tree was ours" (26). This quote represents Amir and Hassan's relationship between them during their early childhood. They are extremely close and carving their names on the tree shows that they will be a part of each other's lives as long as they live. This is true because even though their friendship ends up deteriorating eventually and Amir moves to America, they still carry their memories of each other to their adulthood and think about one another constantly. "Then Hassan did pick up a pomegranate. He walked toward me. He opened it and crushed it against his own forehead. "There," he croaked, red dripping down his face like blood. "Are you satisfied? Do you feel better"(93)? When this happens, it marks Amir and Hassan starting to become distant, which also happens to be at the pomegranate tree. When Hassan crushes the pomegranate on his own forehead, it symbolizes their friendship starting to become crushed and them splitting apart. The juice from the pomegranate "dripping down Hassan's face like blood" relates to later on in the story when Amir discovers Hassan's death and thinks that Hassan's blood was on his hands. "A pair of crows sat on the low wall that enclosed the cemetery. Hassan had said in his letter that the pomegranate tree hadn't borne food in years. Looking at the wilted, leafless tree, I doubted it ever would again" (264). The pomegranate tree being dead represents Amir and Hassan's friendship being dead completely. Their friendship can't be restored anymore because Hassan is now dead and Amir will never be able to show him that he is sorry for what he did in the past and how he tried to make up for it, which is expressed when Amir says that he doubts the tree would ever…

Flying kites is a passion of both Amir and Hassan and as they win the national kite fighting championship Amirs finally wins a spot in the heart of his torn father. But after this competition the kite takes on a very different significance to the boys as Amir witnesses Hassans rape but does not step in, in the fear the perpetrators will steal his victory prize and his father will see him as a failure. Ironically Amir not standing up to the boys meant that he had become “ The boy [I] his father was afraid he would become.” Amirs actions that day and his failings to step in and save amir switched the symbolism of the Kite from victory and happiness to a sign of betrayal and guilt. Amirs guilt means that he can’t stand to be in the same house as Hassan so he frames Hassan of theft and force his father to fire him. This is the last time Amir would see Hassan. But despite all of these adversities Amir many many years later finds his redemption as the novel closes, Amir and Hassan orphan Shrobha are flying a kite, again the symvolism has done a complete turn around and the kite signifies happiness and the fact that even in the worst of circumstances redemption is attainable. Significantly the roles have also reversed as Sorbha cuts a kite Amir runs it looking back over his shoulder he…

    1. The novel begins with Amir 's memory of peering down an alley, looking for Hassan who is kite running for him. As Amir peers into the alley, he witnesses a tragedy. The novel ends with Amir kite running for Hassan 's son, Sohrab, as he begins a new life with Amir in America. Why do you think the author chooses to frame the novel with these scenes? Refer to the following passage: "Afghans like to say: Life goes on, unmindful of beginning, end...crisis or catharsis, moving forward like a slow, dusty caravan of kochis [nomads]." How is this significant to the framing of the novel?…

The inclusion of flight in a novel can be symbolic of freedom or escape for the character. In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the protagonist, Amir, goes back to Afghanistan to rescue his half-brother’s son, Sohrab when the Taliban begin to take over the country. Once, Amir escapes with Sohrab to the United States, he feels himself escape from his guilt about not telling anyone about Assef raping his half-brother, Hassan, when he was a boy. The flight back home also relinquishes Amir of the guilt he has for abandoning Hassan when he and his father left for the U.S. years ago. Although, Amir isn't the only character flying away from pain. When it comes down to Sohrab, he feels like he should have never left Afghanistan despite being free…

People from different cities, and states come down just for this event. There are six stages, dozens of rides, and a full gallery’s worth of art, cool off zones, vendors, food and beverages. We were surrounded by the smell of popcorn and cotton candy. It felt like the carnival you liked to go to as a kid. Everywhere we went there were people dressed like rainbows. Everybody was dressed in so many colors, and dressed like clowns, with different costumes. The…

Here, Hassan and Amir are discussing kite running, a sport which is very popular among the children in Kabul. It involves two people, one holding the kite spool, and the other controlling the movement of the kite. The idea of the sport is to take down the opponents kites, by cutting or slicing through the kite string. The strings are usually made of razor wire, to allow this.…

Who knew that a square of paper, a wooden frame, and a strand of twine could have so much meaning hidden beneath the surface? In the book The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, among many layers of plot twists and character development, symbolism is an integral part of the storyline. Particularly, the symbol of the kite was one that remained prominent throughout the entire plot. The kite could be interpreted as a representation of freedom, among other ideas. For the protagonist Amir, the kite was arguably what shaped him as a…

The first recommendation for this toddler is to plan enough time for her to participate in the activity. Due to her wanting to take her time and wanting feedback from the teachers, it is recommended that they is enough time for each child to participate on their own in the manner that they wish. The objective that corresponds with this recommendation is that the toddler will use the extra time given in order to move their bodies by running and moving their arms around the room to the music. While referring back to the Omnibus Guidelines text, it is important for young children to have time to express their feelings if they are unable to express them verbally. I have implicated this into my objective by allowing time for toddlers to move their bodies to music to express themselves through creative…

For this activity I did corn flour and used the age range of 1-3 year olds. I completed this activity on a lino floor so it was easy and safe for me and also the other children to play. I done it on 2 tables put together which made a red hexagon. I made sure I only had 4 children at one time because there were only 4 aprons I could use at the time. To make sure I planned effectively, the day before I went round to the nursery’s play shed and made sure they had a tray that I could do the activity on, I then proceeded to make a list so I knew what I had to bring in the next day. When it got to the next day I placed the red hexagon table on the lino floor with aprons on 4 chairs for the children to sit on. To make sure I followed the health and…

Children's artwork is uninhabited and comes from a purely spontaneous place, and that is what makes this program so wonderful," says Gager.…
