A concept that appeared in both interviews was responsibilities. Yaswantie worked to support her family, she volunteered at her church, and worked full time. Similarly, to her sister, Basmatie had to support her husband, while running her own business. Despite the responsibilities that these women have, they both decided to attend college. Additionally, both interviewees discussed money and how it affected their lives. The cost of tuition was a factor that caused both sisters to make adjustments to the way they lived. Yaswanite had to learn to save money and not buy unnecessary items. On the other hand, when Basmatie’s husband became sick, she had to stop attending college because she could no longer afford tuition for nursing school. Instead of attending nursing school, she decided to open her own cabin cleaning business to support herself and her husband.…
The mommy track has become a very real concern when it comes to women who want to have a rewarding career and still have children. Since women make up half the workforce in today’s society, the previous views or perspective that a woman cannot due both successfully has become a hot topic. Previously, it was expected that once a woman decided to have a child, she would have to switch to a part time job with little chance for advancement since she would not be able to devote the time needed to be successful as she advanced her career. Another possibility was that she would decide to leave the company altogether and raise the children as a full time mother. With women’s rights advancing and government protections being created for ensure fair treatment and equality among the sexes, making headway. It seems that there is a very real need to create…

This story taught me that values are really important in career decisions. This mother went to work for the airlines and loved every minute of it. Eventually, she wanted to start a family, so she left her job to get married and have children. She could have stayed with the airlines, but then raising a family would have been very difficult. She followed what she wanted to do, and lived a very happy life because of her decisions.…
As the child of professional parents, I, somewhat embarrassingly, never recognized the fortunes I took for granted in my daily surroundings and private school. Instead, I chose a path of least resistance, never challenging myself to truly make the most of opportunities. I took comfort in my insulated world of sports and friends from similar social and economic backgrounds.…
According to Gardner, the ones who have a profession tend to loose the valuable sentimental moments in their lives, specifically with their families. She believes that work consumes the mind with stress that is later released upon the family causing strains in the relationships. The author exemplifies upon this topic by sharing what is going on inside of the Fulham family and the Powers family. In the Fulham family, the father,…

In today’s society, time has changed from people deciding whether they shall get married or start a relationship. One of the main concerns that make people choose not to get married is they are not financially stable. If it were that easy to find a job that pays well, then most people would be in a health relationship and have a stable job. I am in the perfect example of problems in starting a family in today’s society. I come from a family of five and am the elderlies of all. My parents are divorced and I must take the load of being the main bread maker. I never thought in a million years that I would be taking care of my mother and my fellow siblings. It is very surreal but I do understand that we all go through struggles in life to progress in a healthier relationship. It does stress me out because there are times when money doesn’t work out with the necessity of the family. I hope one day that I can start my own family one day but the instable income for the household.…
She has the middle class values of honesty, hard work, progress, achievement and respectability (Friedman, et al., 2003). Individualism and equality are valued, but she stresses respect for God, family and elders; good grades and academic achievement above all else. Health care for the children is important to her. She utilizes her health care insurance to makes sure they have all the needed physicals, immunizations, eye and dental care recommended by their pediatrician. She has delayed her own routine health and dental care and screenings to meet work or family commitments. I explained to Lois that in a recent study a questionnaire was given at both men and women to evaluate family burdens; domestic responsibilities; the appraisal of work and family; and values involved in work-family balance. The results of this study show that, in the present economic and cultural context, assuming family burdens and domestic responsibilities increases the positive appraisal of work and family (Cantera, Cubells, Martinez & Blanch, 2009).…
After several years of studying and then working to gain experience, women tend to prefer first being successful in their job and build a career and delay parenthood until they are a older (Wilkie, 1981). A study from the New York Post showed that about 43 % of women with higher education between 33 and 46 are without children (Walker, 2011) as they try to postpone this chapter of life until they find the right time for it. Christy Jones was also an upcoming young entrepreneur who was always looking for a new opportunity. After her undergrad studies she established a start-up company at the Nasdaq and was then looking for a new challenge. As going back to HBS seemed interesting Jones had to face the fact that she would be very busy then next few years and that there wasn’t time to start a family. As women in their twenties are the most fertile (Lobo, 2005), and as Jones was in exact this situation as many young professional women, she saw the opportunity of freezing women’s eggs while they are at their best quality. With combining her business skills and the opportunity to work closely with experts in different fields of HBS, Jones took the chance and wrote a business plan for her idea. Not seeing a problem, but an opportunity made it happen to create this business idea. With having a well-selected team and clear goals this was a great chance to start a new business. However, goals might change during a journey and an entrepreneur should always be open and observantly for new or additional opportunities.…

Turned around, it is not hard to find the people around you just can work at a single job for years and years. It was very sad by that scenario. In their life, work and go home and stay with their families are all about it. They usually didn’t have smile. And do not know what the world around them is. Inside of it was full of anxious and unhappiness. They were afraid of getting lay off and can’t find jobs. They were more afraid of where they can go. Comparing with this, I was much easier being hired by a company. Even through not with high salary but at least I can get a job as a cashier, a restaurant waitress, an office clerk and so on. Here as I did my review, it was all about literacy, and how you locate literacy’s important position in your life. It was lots of difficulties, but it was worthy, valuable and important to solve this puzzle which is taking affect in your life…
