In this webinar, the speaker, Dru Tomlin, discusses the characteristics to make a great school. These characteristics are what are needed by the teachers, administrators, students, and parents to come together to create a safe, good environment for learning. He discusses the curriculum, instruction, assessment, leadership, organization, culture, and community and breaks them down to further define them. In every heading, he says what we will accept and expect while we are building. In every heading, when asked this, he mentions sharing, asking, and listening. If it is mentioned in every heading, it shows how important this is since it is repeated. In the webinar, Tomlin also mentioned several times that as educators, we should remember what we were like during the middle school ages. We need to be aware of the changes they are going through and adjust our instruction around that. We need to be conscious of the social-emotional changes as well as the physical while they are learning academically changes. The characteristics are used to measure how schools perform and create good schools. A main part of having a good curriculum/school is to have educators that see the benefits of adolescents and are ready to educate them.…
