Latino Paradox Analysis
Encyclopedia Britannica(2015), explains the term "paradox" as one that "arises from false assumptions, which then lead to inconsistencies between observed and expected behavior". So, why then the Latino paradox"?. "Latino paradox" suggests that we are expecting the poor arriving here from Mexico to be sick. The fact that they are healthy, somehow clashes with our presumptions of the poor. That presumption, even expectation is truly bothersome. How and why did we come to acquire such belief? Why do we expect the poor to be sick? Are we just so comfortable with the status quote, that we should call it the "Latino paradox"? There is nothing abnormal that the poor should be healthy. Perhaps then, we should call it the "American paradox", as
our expectations should be that in such a wealthy, modern and progressive country, there should not be such divisions in the health status.
