Lazy Late-Summers' Sunday
The shrill screech of the alarm clock fills the air in my room. I slam the alarm and the sound makes way for my first thought: “This is not how a relaxing Sunday starts.” I emerge from the house on to the back veranda; which is basking in the sun. It bakes my weary bones as I awaken. Despite the sun, there is a cool breeze that is just shy of cold. I step on the grass and the icy dew creeps between my toes sending chills up to my legs. The breeze is trying desperately to dislodge the leaves that are the colour of fire after a long dry summer. As I crunch through the leaves under the low hanging grape vines the dogs bark excitedly, still fresh from the nights repose. I lazily collapse onto the piles of leaves, popping the grapes one by one in between my teeth. The clouds dissolve into the blue sky as I watch from my bed in the garden. I can feel I am in for a beautiful day at the beach with my friends.
The wind attacks my ears as the car crests the hill on the way to the beach. As the car struggles over the hill the blue sky explodes back into the car having disappeared from view. The car is filled with excited chatter about the girls that are going to be at the beach. The radio presenter who muffles in between the chatter reports on the swells. They are said to be reaching six feet tall. I feel my nerves tatter as I think of the sheer size of such a wave, I have never surfed such a big wave. Huge waves are like giants imposing their will on you as you try to conquer them. “Waves and girls are all we could ask for!” I am informed by Kyle next to me
Silver sand scorches our feet as we make our way across the sand. The grains attempt to break away from the crowd by clinging to my feet to a place unknown. Their efforts are fruitless as I wade through the water and my feet are cooled and cleansed by the fresh ocean. The waves crash on the shore in an eternal to and fro. I lie down listening to the chatter and the waves’ swishing. As I drift into a sleeplike state of

I felt the sand squish slowly through my toes as I gaily walk down the shoreline of the outer banks. There was a unique shade of green on the land. It was soft but yet silky as I bent to touch it. It smelt herbaceous.…

She struggles against the ripping force of the ocean current. Her arms are quickly tiring from swimming against it. She relaxes, letting her muscles fall limp. Within seconds, she is pushed out to sea. The people on the beach are so small, little tiny ants against a white sand backdrop. The tall condo skyscrapers are now tiny Lego buildings. The kids hollering and music blasting on the beach is faded like a distant memory. She will die out here, she’s sure of it. Her daughter won’t have a mother’s hand to hold when learning to walk. Her husband will be left a widower, forever broken by the loss of his love. She closes her eyes and accepts her fate as she drifts further out to sea. She floats for a long while, the salinity in the water steadily…

The job of the first person that wakes up is to open all windows and doors of the house. You can smell the cooking of eggs, and the making of Cuban coffee. Inside of my aunt’s house I smelled the breakfast she cooked, the flowers from her backyard, and the scent of soap from the bathroom. The hills surrounding the town reflected the rising sun’s light on the dewy grass. The sound of horses galloping enters the house as they pass by. Noises gradually increase throughout the day, but as the day dies out so does all the sounds. At night the town is quiet. The streetlights were dim, but the moon was as white as paper and the stars bright as diamonds. Families are in their homes, eating, talking, playing dominoes, or getting ready for bed. I enjoyed nighttime because my family always stayed up late to talk and laugh. Every night was the same routine. I ate, showered, and laughed until I was…

It was another early morning in the Cabin for Greg, he can feel the light glittering upon his face and sees the bright glow through his eyelids. He slowly opens his eyes to the bright world that he was in. He hears the sound of a car starting up out the front of the Cabin, he knows what day today is, Sunday. The smell of the fresh country air drifts him downstairs and toward the kitchen as if he was thinking with his nose. The cupboard glides open and he helps himself to his daily bowl of Honey and Oats. He slightly opened the window to feel the refreshing breeze gush past his face, “what a beautiful Sunday!” he said to himself.…

The sand scorched our feet like steaks on a fiery grill. I had brought the Rock along to join me for a surfing lesson. We snatched our wetsuits and our boards and hit the waves. The ocean water sends a chilling sensation through my body. The polar water feels like a steamy shower after a long day, calming and relaxing. The waves are monstrous and intimidating, however, I seem to ride them effortlessly like I had done it a million times before. I dash past the Rock and under a curling wave. In the waves there are vividly colored fish swimming in schools. The water is so translucent that one can easily see the ocean floor, and the coral and seaweed that lay on…

But I want to think a little about summer. Why do we like it so much and cherish it’s every day? Why does it so much influence our mood? Summer comes every year like an award for the long and cold winter that we’ve managed to withstand. It’s my way of seeing it, of course, you may not agree with me. We like the sun, it’s warm and bright rays that are meeting us every summer morning, we’re fond of sunsets that stay in our memory for long time. It’s great time of camping weekends, holidays on the sea-shore and long evening walks in the city parks. I like that trees and grass are so emerald green, I like azure blue sky and light clouds…

I am sitting in my old brown broken down rocking chair, staring at my sweet yellow marigolds and then glancing at the half-dawn light, which fills the sky with a strange and frightening feeling. The cool, fresh, summer breeze tickles my toes and makes me shiver. The screeching radio from my son’s room lures me into my ramshackle of a house.…

After the brief but shrill sound of the bell to signal school dismissal, I was looking forward to a very lazy three day weekend. As I gradually made my way home by means by walking slowly dragging my feet. This was because I was completely exhausted from this past week. I finally made it home and I was famished and and weary, I grabbed a bite to eat and headed to my room. After I consumed that banana I laid back on my savior for the moment, the bed and drifted off.…

It was a cold morning, the wind was a gentle breeze and the sun shined down brilliantly into a mass of dull clouds. Looking around, most of the neighbors’ front yards look like they spent months without a drop of water. Even the joyous colors of plastic plants on everyone’s front door couldn’t hope to liven up the mood. It was indeed a dead morning, though Ralph became accustomed to this type of air due to years of waking up to it. On mornings like these Ralph wonders if he should have stayed in Cotswolds. If his memory serves him right, the flowers there should be just blooming. Ah, he can remember waking up to the sweet smell of honeydew mixed with freshly baked bread. However, Ralph thought to himself, he made the decision long ago to stay…

The rain came down in a light pitter patter, as I sat on my porch swing with a steaming cup of tea clutched in my hands. A blanket was tucked around my body, preventing the cool air from giving me a chill. The rain washed the cars and houses as it poured down on everything in its path. The smell of the rain only being able to be described as satisfactory as the smell of clean linen sheets. The usually busy neighborhood, being as quiet as a mouse with the exception of the rumbles of the sky. I sat like this all morning, taking in the beauty before it was time for me to go inside and start my day.…

As soon as we got to our hotel room, I rushed to put on my swimsuit to go to the beach before the sun fully set. The hotel room looked like I had been there for a month, with clothes scattered over the marbled tiles in our hotel bathroom. The soft sand between my toes felt like fuzzy socks as I ran to meet the ocean’s tide. The foaming water washed away the sand as well as the stress I had accumulated at the airport. My worries about not having my parents with me and being in a new place fled as I watched the sun set behind the tall…

As we approach the beach, the first thing I notice is the sky. As I look into the cloudless, cerulean blue sky and see the flawlessness of life; in the distance, rolling clear-blue waves crash into each other with such force as that of football players. The sky is breathtaking along with the sounds of the waves and the tide washing onto the shore. The water reminds me of crystals shimmering in the water with the sun reflecting off of it. As the sun sets, the sky turns into a pink hue with a bright orange sun going down into the horizon.…

As I walk down the narrow, brown, rickety bridge that leads to the ocean my heart begins to race in anticipation of reaching the fascinating sight. I’m suddenly surrounded by sand that is white and pure as snow. I walk at a turtle’s speed absorbing this overwhelming beauty that encircles me. The sky is the brightest blue I’ve ever seen, so bright that it almost seems as if it is from an animated movie and not real life itself. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fade away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkle like diamonds. The water is never-ending. I see heaps of seagulls flying around the sky, white and grey and full of spirit. As a gust of wind runs through my long, dark, brown hair I look to the right to see two elegant dolphins leap from the deep blue sea and dive back in as if saying hello to the gorgeous, heavenly day.…

Down the street from my house, where you can see the sun finally coming up for a bright autumn day, sits an old wooden park bench. As I made my way down there I started thinking about how great it was going to be to enjoy being outside on such a nice day. I could not wait to just sit and observe the many people who will be in that same park, under the same beautiful trees, and under the same bright sun. It had been a while since I had just sat alone and watched the world around me go by and I was really looking forward to a quiet, peaceful day at the park.…
