seemed bewildered over all the chaos. I recall at times I felt excluded due to my shyness, like Armando and I didn't want him to feel like that.
After leading the exciting activities masked as metaphors for skills that they could apply to high school and through life, my partner and I gave our group a tour of the school. This is when I had the chance to have a one on one with Armando while my partner toured the rest of the group. I guided him through the hallways and showed him where each department was and gave him advice on what staircase to take after lunch because the middle staircase always gets crowded. He appreciated my tips and felt more comfortable which was indicated when he started contributing to the conversation and told me how he had just moved to California from Mexico a year ago.
After the tour, we went back to the gym and sat on the bleachers where I introduced him to my friend's brother who was also shy. When all the freshman were dismissed to pick up their schedule, I saw them getting along with each other and months later I still see them talking to each other. Having the opportunity to introduce both of them to each other and guide Armando was an experience I'll never forget because it helped Armando self-reliant with other people, he just needed time.
