Bailee Grace Gunnell- If you were to ask me if I would ever change my name if I had the chance, I would say no. My name defines me, even if some annoying little kid tells me that I am a girl who has a boy name. I still wouldn't trade it for another one. Even if my name doesn't have the most interesting meanings. Bailee means public servant, Grace means Grace of God and Gunnell the descendant of Gunnilla.…
Natalyia Jenkins, I don't even know how she convinces my mother she innocents. I don't like this girl one bit - correction, I hate with a passion. One day we were in the Bahamas, my mother thought it was okay to plan a surprise trip. For Just the two of us, I went for 2 days and left her there. Broke...…
Actually, I can’t say with confidence that it’s the radio at all. I’ve swapped it out three times, finally settling on an ancient cassette deck excavated from a musty box in my garage. But it’s not the station, or who’s speaking, or even how modern (or ancient) the radio is. There’s something in the air and it has a home: The Silver Memorial Bridge.…
Ruby Bridges is a great girl that is well known around the world. Ruby is a great role model to kids everywhere. I enjoyed researching about her and get to know more of her accomplishment and her childhood.…
Being a part of so many great organizations, for example SMAC (Stillwater Makes a Change) and Youth Leadership Oklahoma, has not compared to being a part of Pink Out week at Stillwater High School. So far, I believe that my greatest accomplishment has been being a Co-head of Pink Out week. Pink Out has helped me grow so much as a leader and has taught me how to execute large scale events. It has also been my biggest impact on the community.…
I have heard many people around me saying that you should go walk the Brooklyn Bridge at least once and I never have a chance to fulfill it. Through this opportunity, I called my friend up to accompany me to walk the Bridge for the first time. Based on the information from the history of the United States, the Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883 and considered as an engineering marvel for that time. It remains as one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. During mid-1800s, the ferries connected Manhattan and Brooklyn. Ferries was a major convenience transportation for us, the people of that day were used to oars and sails to ride boats. These faster, more reliable ferries helped Brooklyn grow until the bridge was build. When…
Quite possibly the most significant time of my life was during my senior year as part of the Edison High School football team. The story of our 2006 season is a reflection of my life and testimony to my beliefs and values. Underdogs from day one, we represented not only our school, but also our community and families. Early expectations of the 2006 Eagles were low and the surrounding community was under the belief that Edison would be lucky to go 6-4 with the inexperienced players and the loss of such a talented senior class. Suddenly, I was starting as the outside linebacker/defensive end for the first time in my career along with 18 brand new starters. Unexpectedly, a green group of replacements were 5-0, half-way through our season. After…
"We admire people to the extent that we cannot explain what they do, and the word admire then means marvel at." This quote by B. F. Skinner shows exactly how I idolize certain people. I admire those who can make me realize who I am, who understand where I stand on and who is not afraid to say what is on their minds. One incredible individual, who I have met recently, changed the way I looked at the world. Ms. Lena Parks has a different air around her that I do not find most in others. I applaud her for the discipline she imposed on herself to reach her goal, for her sense of humor, and for her individuality.…
Rachel called me back regarding Wells trial which is scheduled on March 28, the matter is sitting at 3rd setting and in her opinion the first setting would go ahead on trial since its contested and she hasn’t heard anything in terms of settling the matter or resetting. The second case she is not sure, she has given me the attorneys name for those two cases. I called the attorneys’ offices and this is what I found out:…
“I got this! I got this! Just calm down and take position. You have prepared yourself for this race all morning.” “Just take your position and breathe.” “Why is my heart pounding like this?” “Inhale and exhale.” This is normal for UWA freshman Sarah McMillion on race day. She constantly overthinks and worries about her performance. Her nerves even cause her to wake up early to prepare.…
One time when I challenged my own beliefs, I questioned my own skills. It was one of the most crushing and confusing moments of my life. I was indecisive, hesitant, and most certainly doubtful. I couldn’t even imagine myself, an inexperienced sophomore, working in a career major that I’ve never even thought of doing in the first place.…
Throughout PFC I have learned and gained many new important factors in life whether they are new skills to lifelong friends. Being in PFC has exposed me to new ways of learning and becoming a better leader in the future. From the beginning, I have inherited new skills through the trainings conducted and last minute conflicts on the freshman days of service I have been a part of. The trainings were not just a way of torture, waking up on Saturday mornings dragging myself to work so I can sit there for four hours just to listen to someone talk and instruct us on what to do. Those trainings were another way for us all to get together, learn about each other’s qualities, and being able to deliver to the program to creating a better community for…
Since I was young, my parents have always taught my sister and I the value of giving your time to help others. When my mom had asked if we would be interested in being volunteers for Carly’s Crossing ten years ago, I would have never guessed the impact I could make not just for pediatric cancer patients and their families at Roswell Park, but the impact volunteering had on myself. Looking back, I have now realized that Carly’s Crossing has helped me to build character.…
This evening, and the brothers you shared it with, is one of those memories. To hear encouraging words from your brothers and your family back home serves as a reminder, that while you may at times be by yourself on the road, you are never truly alone. I remember when you set yourself apart from a lot of the men I recruited during my time on staff. It was not long after meeting you, and less than a full day after you signed your bid. Vince and I were having one of our ever so popular info sessions (I think we had our highest attendance during the expansion with about 8 present). You stopped by towards the end of the presentation and we asked if you would not mind speaking on why you decided to join Pi Kappa Phi. You started to speak about being a part of something bigger than yourself and moved onto family. Then your speech accelerated and you began to make very little sense in your ramblings. However, towards the end, you slowed down and said, “Yesterday I woke up an ordinary guy. Today I woke up a PiKapp, and that is a feeling you just can’t describe”. This is the reason you were able to help lead your chapter to heights Vince and I could never…
