Personal Statement: National Junior Honor Society
A self-employed business man once said, “The best example of leadership is leading by example” (Jerry McClain). He describes a true leader, a pioneer whose morals and selflessness guide her to guide others. She is an inspiration, and a beacon of hope for all to follow. I share this passion for helping and guiding by example, and as a member of the National Junior Honor Society, I would seek to better the community just as I do every day inside and outside of the classroom.
Not only is membership in the National Junior Honor Society prestigious, it promotes character, citizenship, and leadership. These are incredibly important traits to individuals, but even more so to the society as a whole. I strive to better my community, and know I will find a kindred spirit in the other NJHS members. Together I believe this caring society can light a beacon bright enough to guide everyone towards a path of good intentions.

I will always keep the big picture of the task or goal in mind while working through the details and will try not to get hung up on the smaller items. Upon receiving my letter for invitation to apply for the National Junior Honor Society came feelings of hard work pays off, and a bit of pride. I have worked very hard to maintain an all A average at Friendswood Junior High while taking some PAP classes as well as challenging myself with Latin. Having been told in a conference with a 5th grade teacher that I was not going to be an A student and that my parents and I needed to get used to that fact, sent me on a mission to be the best student I knew that I was capable of being, regardless of what any teacher thought.…

During my 2 years involved in the National Honor Society I've come to know and love the four pillars of this organization. These four pillars include: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Considering that scholarship is characterized as a commitment to learning, this pillar has taught me many things about the importance of knowledge. Scholarship has made me realize that knowledge is power, diligence and effort if key, and that you should do your absolute best regardless of the outcome. The pillar of service has taught me how to give back to my community. I have learned through the pillar of service that you should reach out and help anyone without compensation or recognition. The pillar of leadership has taught the importance of…

One day in seventh grade something wondrous occurred to me. At the end of the school day I was packing my belongings that I would need when I materialized at my house. Though while I was preoccupied, I espied something in my mailbox with my eyes suddenly. In matter of that fact, I decided to walk over to it. I slipped my hand through it and then grasped a letter. In result, my body very slowly went to my seat and I opened it. I couldn’t believe my eyes! I was accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. Ever since I can remember, I loved mathematics. The exactness of it marveled me, while its complexity intrigued me. While others regarded math as straight forward, I believed that it required an ingenuity even higher than that of the arts. To me, a math problem was a chaotic sort of Lego pieces and the answer to the problem was the finished Lego set. The real fun was in devising the instructions on how to get from the original jumbled mess to the final pristine solution. However, the other kids around me scorned math and relished in what they considered to be more imaginative pursuits, such as reading a book or drawing pictures. If I could show my peers math from the way I see it, I was sure its beauty would astound them, and they would appreciate it as much as I do.…
