However, I thought that as president of NMHS, I would be provided with the freedom to achieve this goal. Since I had been at the top of my math classes during high school, I anticipated an easy triumph for me. Due to this, I imprudently stood idle while my opponents campaigned to their friends. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm on Election Day turned into shock as I learned I had lost to a

Upon receiving my letter for invitation to apply for the National Junior Honor Society came feelings of hard work pays off, and a bit of pride. I have worked very hard to maintain an all A average at Friendswood Junior High while taking some PAP classes as well as challenging myself with Latin. Having been told in a conference with a 5th grade teacher that I was not going to be an A student and that my parents and I needed to get used to that fact, sent me on a mission to be the best student I knew that I was capable of being, regardless of what any teacher thought.…

A self-employed business man once said, “The best example of leadership is leading by example” (Jerry McClain). He describes a true leader, a pioneer whose morals and selflessness guide her to guide others. She is an inspiration, and a beacon of hope for all to follow. I share this passion for helping and guiding by example, and as a member of the National Junior Honor Society, I would seek to better the community just as I do every day inside and outside of the classroom.…

The four pillars of National Honors Society, scholarship, service, leadership, and character, have paved a path for me as a student and as a person. Scholarship has taught me to strive to be the best student I can be. I use scholarship to keep up with my school work and never give up when a class is hard. I always strive for the best grade I can get and I will stop at nothing until I reach my goal. I will continue to use scholarship as I go to college and pursue my dream as a pediatric dentist. I will study, I will learn, and I will never give up no matter what happens along the way. I use service when I volunteered to help my local private school. I was never asked to do so, but I felt as if I was giving back to a school that had done so much…

I never came kindly to the subject of Math. Math was always about constant rote memorization, full of extensive redundant notes that always found their way stuffed into the folds of my notebook never to be seen again. I held onto this impression the entire duration of ninth grade. However, upon a simple happenstance of acquiring the right math teacher with a different approach to math, I became increasingly aware of my previous errors in thinking. Everything was not as unyielding and tedious as I thought it was. Experiencing a teacher with a powerful new perspective altered my rigid frame of thinking, allowing me to excel in math.…

National Honor Society membership is among the highest honors a high school student can achieve, and I am deeply honored to have been considered as a future chapter participant. The program stands for more than academic achievement; scholarship, service, leadership, and character must hold equal weight in the foundation of an Honor Society member. I am confident that my abilities and merit embrace the standards of such a student. I have continually strived for academic excellence with the knowledge that I will only benefit from upholding a strict expectation of myself; moreover, I carry the same attitude towards my animal breeding and showing programs. Since the start of ninth grade, I have maintained college readiness and honor roll with my continued determination to accept nothing less than an ‘A.’ With this drive, I was able to combat my shortcomings from Summer Bridge and climb to my current placing at the top of my class with a 4.26 GPA.…

Originally, I did not enjoy math when I was in Vietnam because the teachers focused too much on strict memorization, while giving little attention to applications. However, when I started school in America in my sixth grade year, my passion for math developed. Initially, it was the only subject in which I excelled, due to my disadvantage of not speaking English, but eventually finding an answer to a math problem would become an adventure for me. I never gave up on finding an answer even if it meant working from sun to sun. Throughout my high school years, I have always maintained an A plus in all of my math, science, and Latin courses. Also, I was the student who scored highest in my school, a 98, on the Algebra II End of Course exam. I presently taking College Algebra and…

If I am selected for the forty acres scholarship, I will take as much of it as I am willing to contribute. This would be an incredible amount because I enjoy growing as a person and with others around me. I like doing this in order to create a community of highly impactful individuals that will positively change the communities around us. I already do this in my high school with the National Honor Society by volunteering for different events around my community in forms of beautifying, reforestation, and giving back to my fellow citizens. I also expect to work together and collaborate ideas with my fellow peers to pursue our goals of completing a post-secondary education that not many high school students around the nation have the opportunity…
