“Showering a Service User”
Reflection on relationships that develop in care work

Today I assisted a Carer with showering a service user, we agreed on what we were going to do at the start of the shift. We prepared all equipment we would need for the task. We worked together as a team. I found it difficult at the start as the women I was showering was 87 years of age and it was my first time showering a woman but after a minute or so I settled down and everything was fine.

Identification of interpersonal issues that can arise in care work such as recognising diversity and individuality in clients, families and co-workers
From the service user care plan and hand over information I knew that the service user enjoys taking a shower each morning. Everything must be prepared for the client before she goes into the shower room and the room temperature should be warm and comfortable. We discussed this when agreeing our task.
Effective reflection on own interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness as a care worker and highlight personal strengths and weaknesses
We talked with the service user explaining it was shower time and was she ok and ready to have one. I explained to the client step by step what we were going to be doing to perform the task. We then asked her if she had any fears, she said she was feeling a little anxious this morning so I put her at ease reassuring her she would be fine I would look after her and talk her through everything we would be doing.
Completion of details skills audit
Communication is one of the skills I used with my client today. I feel I did well with today’s task and settled the client when she became anxious. I have recorded this

One example of a working relationship in an adult social care setting is the relationship between carer and resident. This relationship is important as you need to maintain a professional duty of care. Another example would be between the senior in charge and the G.P. When a G.P comes to see a resident that is poorly they are relying on the carers and the senior in charge to inform them of any changes in that resident so they need to be professional at all times.…

    1. As a carer your role is not to do things for the individuals you care for but to do the tasks including the service user. A support workers role is to work in partnership with the individual and support their decisions, offer as much or as little assistance the service user requires for their care and support them to do as much as possible for themselves. If you provide too much care for an individual they can lose their skills and independence and not learn any new life skills. By providing support and encouraging the individual to participate in their daily living needs you are helping them to develop and maintain their skills for everyday life. Skills are easily regained if the service user is shown how to complete a task. For example if a service user is having a shower and would usually have his hair washed for him, why not show him how to wash his own hair. Whilst providing personal care for my residents when it comes to hair washing, I normally provide the shampoo and apply the shampoo to the service users palm. I then mimmick washing my own hair and ask the service user to copy me. This is also useful in showing a service user where needs to be washed. I also talk to the service user about the task they are doing, for example I would mimmick washing my arms and say wash your arms that's it, don't forget underneath your arm. This is enforcing new skills as well as maintaining them, it also empowers the service user as they have achieved this task themselves with minimal support.…

1.2 - In a care setting it is not only the individuals using the service and the staff that have to be together for long periods of time. The staff themselves have to get along to support the individuals they are paid to look after. Supportive working relationships are important within the work force and help create a good moral. People’s behaviour can rub off each other in affect and if the staff are quiet and withdrawn eventually the individuals will pick up on this resulting in unhappy residents. Within my role I work closely with physiotherapists and the speech and language team, this is different from my care role because I am working towards different goals.…

Obedience to authority is an aspect present in all societies throughout known history. For the entirety of this paper, obedience to authority will refer to any act a member of society performs that he or she was told to do by a position of higher authority. This paper will focus on the idea that members of society will follow commands that may go against their moral beliefs on the sole account that the commands come from a place of higher authority. This statement has been tested multiple times beginning with Stanley Milgram’s experiment in 1963, in which he set up a scenario that convinced people they were harming an individual they had met only minutes before through electrical…
