learning disabilities are and the specifics of what fall within that diagnosis. Dr. Sheldon
Horowitz of the National Center of Learning Disabilities explains to his viewers what having a
learning disability means. By definition, a learning disability interrupts the psychological
processes of comprehending and using language. The student’s who have learning disability are
found to be challenged by receiving, recalling, and communicating the information that is being

The students who are struggling in the area of
writing, labeled as Dysgraphia struggle with organizing, planning, editing, expression, written
language and fluency. Students who are having trouble in the area of spelling are typically
struggling in both reading and writing. The last academic challenge these students can encounter
is math, this is called Dyscalculia. These students’ can have trouble in any area of math
specially, for example measuring, counting, patterns, or numbers in general. Outside of academic
challenges these students can have auditory processing issues, visual processing, sensory motor,
and social issues.
Dr. Sheldon stresses to his viewers that having a Learning Disability is not solely due to
a visual and hearing issue, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disabilities, or Emotional
Disabilities. In addition, he tells us that is also not due to a disadvantage in their lives.

diagnosis of a learning disability often have low self-esteem/low self confidence. They can
spend a lot of their time in fear of being called on or asked a question they aren’t capable of
answering in front of their peers. It’s important to help out students get to a goal we are setting
for them but I also find it very important for us to be consciences of what they feel like internally
being aware that they know less than their peers
