Les Demoiselles d’Avignon perfectly represents the cubist period because the forms the prostitutes portrayed in the painting are depicted with sharp angles as well as given geometric features. Furthermore, the painting represents nontraditional art since art before the cubist period seemed grounded in reality considering that the bodies artists portrayed were anatomically correct, meanwhile, the bodies of the prostitutes seem surreal. Moreover, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon seems to portray fragmentation since most of the women depicted seem as if they were taken from completely different paintings and were compiled into one painting. For instance, the women on the top right corner, lower right corner, and far left seem completely different, artistically, than the two women who are in the middle of the painting. Additionally, the background image behind the women seems to be inconsistent throughout the entire painting.
