Life Is Beautiful Response
The movie Life is Beautiful would not be a good film to show for the class. This is because the movie is like a comedy during a time which was anything but funny. Some events in the movie shown are the exact opposite of what would have happened in real life. I would not say this is a wise movie because of the joking nature, some events that would or would not happen, and how the movie hid the real violence. The joking in this movie make it an unwise movie to show. There were many people who would try to keep everyone's morale up in camps, but Guido would definitely take it too far. Multiple times, when everyone is being marched by the soldiers, Guido would do a stereotypical march which definitely would have gotten him shot. The Nazis wanted …show more content…
No matter what type of camp, there was violence and death every day. The only instances of violence or death is show off screen. When Dora is walking down the staircase, the women next to tells her that one day, someone will say "come on kids lets go play" and take them to their deaths. This moment tells about the violence and death which takes place in the camps, but not being able to see it would not hold the true horror of the actual action. Another instance that hides the horrors of the camp is when Guido is killed. He disguised himself as a woman to look for his wife. He cant find her after many attempts, and a spotlight finds him. Eventually a guard chases him down right in front of the locker Giosué is hiding in, and is taken behind a wall and shot. We know that Guido is killed, but he would most likely have not been walked so far to be killed. He most likely would have been shot on the spot or would have been killed as an example if they weren't in the process of leaving due to the advancing front. This movie again is not wise to show because it mentions death and suffering, but it doesn't show anything actually happening. The movie Life is Beautiful is not wise to show because it doesn't show the true horrors of the Holocaust. The movie has the main character joking around the whole movie and acting in ways which would never happen or would end with different outcomes.

The First inaccuracy that I noticed was that the characters in the movie is speaking in English with British accents. Since the story is set in Germany, the Characters would have spoken German with German accents. Another inaccuracy in the movie is that Shmuel and Bruno should have never met. In the real Auschwitz, children under the acceptable working age of twelve would have been killed within the first day of arriving at the concentration camp. Since Shmuel was eight years old like Bruno, he would not have survived multiple days living within the camp. Suppose he was allowed to live he would not have been able to become friends with Bruno. Inmates would not have been left unsupervised for long periods of time. Towards the end of the movie, Shmuel helps Bruno sneak under the fence and the two boys go off to find Shmuel’s father, who in reality was most likely dead. It would have been almost impossible to sneak into a concentration camp like Auschwitz. This camp would have been heavily guarded and not easy to sneak in or out off. The last inaccuracy that I found was that Shmuel referred to the camp inmates as being people like him, Jewish. Which is not entirely true. Although Auschwitz would have mainly been made up of mostly Jewish prisoners, the concentration camps were not just holding the Jewish people. These camps would have had inmates that were Jews, Gypsies, Soviet prisoners of war, Poles, Roma, and other nationalities as well. In conclusion, I would not suggest watching this…

When Eliezer was packed into the train with all of the other Jews, the guards would throw a lone piece of bread into the car just to watch the people kill each other over one bite of food, also, when the Jews were unloaded off of the train, they were marched right up to the crematory and then turned away quickly. The treatment of Eliezer and his companions this way reveal some moral values of the surrounding environment. Kapos of the camp would randomly beat Jews without mercy for no reason in particular. Eliezer's father was once beaten because the kapo was is a bad mood and he got in the…

The most important things are is how the people were killed, how it impacted the people outside the camp and why was there a camouflage out siding the camp. The men do not care at all about the Jews. On pg 1, line 51, a man says, “You shut your trap, you filthy swine, or I’ll squash you right now! You’d have done better to have hanged yourselves where you were than come here. Didn’t you know what was in store for you at Auschwitz? Haven’t you heard about it? In 1944?... Do you see those flames? Over there-that’s where you’re going to be taken. That’s your grave, over there. Haven’t you realized it yet? You dumb bastards, don’t you understand anything? You’re going to be burned. Frizzled away. Turned into ashes.” This shows that the men in the camp couldn’t care less about the Jews that were being sent there. The men also are killing a lot of Jews. On pg 1, line 25, Eli says, “Behind me, an old man fell to the ground. Near him was an SS man putting his revolver back in it’s holster.” This shows that these men aren’t good at…

The number of deaths itself would be enough to explain how horrible the camps were, but the way they were handled was far more extreme and horrendous. There were many ways they could die: in the gas chambers, crematoriums, disease, starvation, hangings, dehydration, beatings,…

The concentration camps were detention centers specially aimed at imprisoning all Jews. All Jews entering the camp were burned with a number. Daily life was harsh, with demanding forced labor. Lack of skills at work meant death. In Schindler 's List, S.S. Officers were shown executing and beating Jews mercilessly. In Night, an S.S. Officer was mentioned who abused Jews by beating them with the back of their guns. The documentary focused on "scientific research" when in reality, they were torture chambers where millions of Jews suffered.…

Through the midst of torture and suffering during the Holocaust, hope can be found through love and family. Two examples of this would be a memoir, Night, by Elie Wiesel and a movie, Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni. While some similarities are noticeable, the differences are astonishing and striking, which gives the audience various experiences.…

There were numerous differences between the two stories. First of all, Life is Beautiful had a much lighter and amusing tone to the story. The father attempted to turn the deportation into a game with a system of points. Then, when all of the kids were gassed in the gas chambers, Guido put a twist on the “game” by shifting it into a hide-and-seek type of game. The less the guards saw Joshua, Guido’s son, the more points they gained. Throughout Guido’s attempt to conceal the truth of the absolute horror of the concentration camps from his son, the task proves to be rather difficult and causes Guido to go through a number of humorous actions to make sure his son doesn’t discover the reality. However, in Night, Elie knew right off the bat that nothing was sugar-coated or fun about concentration camps. Of course, the fact that he spoke German and therefore understood the guards also contributed to the fact that he could not have possibly been protected from the truth. Then, the officers also tried to make the concentration camps sound better than they actually were by saying labor camps were located on site. However, all of the lies were revealed as untrue once the families stepped off the trains. The tone was never humorous or even slightly relaxed in Night as it was in Life is Beautiful.…

The film is based on the memoirs of Wladyslaw Szpilman, this is a true story of what this man went through during Hitler’s reign. I feel like the plot of this film immediately sets it up to convey the information in a factual but emotive way, although because it is a memoir it also leaves it open to withhold a lot of information that might not be know and because they didn’t want to make parts of the story up they left the audience with quite a few unanswered questions.…

The higher education system in America has become an expectation, and an apparent necessity, for those looking to achieve success in the work force. Young adults' mentors, including teachers, counselors, and parents, urge students to attend college after the competition of high school, no matter the circumstances. In his work, "Are Too Many People Going to College", Charles Murray brings this system of postsecondary education under question, analyzing the problems within our society that have grown from the high importance placed on earning a college degree.…

    Escape From Sobibor (EFS)

    • 997 Words

Sobibor was the most secret Nazi death camp, made more secret by the fact that it was shut down after the uprising and made to look like a farm. Sobibor therefore was unable to become a human slaughterhouse on the scale of Birkenau (though the 250,000 deaths that occurred there are deplorable enough.) The film begins in the camp, and the first section of the film demonstrates some of the spontaneous, disorganized, and somewhat individualistic attempts at escape that end in failure and death. Also shown are acts of Nazi retribution, and routine brutality. EFS does not flinch at demonstrating the cruelty of the Capos (Jewish collaborators who acted as camp guards), most of them treacherous fiends. This is standard fare for Holocaust films, but the history portrayed in EFS turns in a different direction.…

As an exquisite woman walks into a room, it is not uncommon to see heads turn her way. We have seen beautiful women be the center of attention in many instances, such as when a bride walks down the aisle to her groom, or perhaps when Julia Roberts walks out in a stunning red opera dress in Pretty Woman, illustrating her transformation from rags to riches. The familiar arrival of the pretty woman in movies and books is also seen in Lancôme’s perfume advertisement. Julia Roberts, the face of this particular perfume, walks into an elegant event wearing a glittering gown and is strongly portrayed as the most striking woman of the party. Throughout the advertisement we see that Julia is different than the other characters at the event, and she sets herself apart from them with the help of her perfume. This commercial’s use of contrasting characters, setting, and sequence strongly implies that using ‘La Vie est Belle’ will allow you to become an individual among your peers.…
