Marriage all around the world happens at different time in everyone’s lives. Some people marry young while some people wait to marry until they are older and wiser. Some people around the world do not meet their spouse until they walk down the aisle. More commonly in todays age many individuals are marrying someone of the same sex. People also may experience divorce. Marriage happens in many ways.
As it states in the book Life Span Development, marriage was once viewed as an end point to adult development. Individuals believed they created the live they dreamt. Some individuals already have children, while some have already been married once or twice. It states in the textbook Life Span Development that men are more like to remarry before women do. Most divorced individuals marry someone that also has been divorced. This makes for more children in a household. The textbook also states that an individual that remarries is more likely to experience mental heal issues like depression and anxiety. If an individual is remarrying someone with a child or children they need to ease their way into the child’s life. It states in an article on American Psychological Association website that a stepparent should thing about the child’s emotions before jumping in to a parent role. Even though most people live with each other before marriage, children still see the marriage as a change in their life. There are approximately 9 million individuals that are lesbian, gay, or bisexual. (CNN) On June 26th, 2015 the Supreme Court rules 5-4 that states can’t ban same sex marriage. (CNN) This is a growing topic in the United States. Some people to don’t believe it is ok for individuals of the same sex to be in a relationship with one another. In the chapter book Life Span Development it states that gay and lesbian relationships are the same as heterosexual relationships. Each individual has to find balance in his or her life. There is approximately 22% of same sex couples raising children in the United States (CNN Politics). The textbook also states that same sex partners adopt children. It states that lesbian couples are more likely to have children then gay couples. These individuals are just a capable of raising children as anyone else. Same sex marriage is an on going topic to learn about. So many individuals struggle with the challenges of people not accepting them. No matter what the laws are passed some people will never accept
