Being a lifeguard lead me to find my interest in Medicine. Over the past three summers, I have been the head lifeguard at a community neighborhood. Like becoming a Doctor, there is lots of work and practice that goes into being capable of rescuing a life. I went through hours and hours of training workshops and CPR training classes in order to get my lifeguard certification. At the end, the only thing that makes all the training and exhaustion worth it is when you are able to successfully put yours skills to the test. As a lifeguard, you do not wish it upon anyone to have to give CPR to a five-year-old little girl, but on one hot summer day; that was me. Adrenaline rushing through my veins as the sight of a little girl submerged under the water…

I am applying to the Bsc Adult Nursing course, because this job is not only learning about caring for people but also how to become a useful asset to a medical team and this is something I would really enjoy doing. Communication is a strong part of this job and as well as the ability to work as a team. Without these qualities it would be difficult to do this job to the fullest. I would like the committee to be aware of what I believe to be my three strongest qualities: my leadership skills, ability to work well in a team, and unwavering perseverance. My involvement in shadowing, volunteering, working and being a leader never affected my ability to succeed in my academic career. Instead, these opportunities motivated me to work harder at my dream of becoming a PA. For this reason, I was able to graduate at the top of my class as Magna Cum Laude with a 3.82 GPA. These opportunities did not only push me to do my best academically but pushed me in becoming a better version of myself. My non-health related working experiences taught me to be open-minded, a motivator, confidant, and a delegator. Meanwhile, holding leadership…

For most of my summer’s during college, I worked at a Girl Scout camp as a lifeguard. It was one of my favorite jobs I ever, but sometimes it was also difficult. During my second summer, I received feedback from the Head Lifeguard, Hank, that challenged me as a lifeguard and personally. Every day, I delivered waterfront rules to the campers that came down to swim. Providing the rules and ensuring the campers understood them made sure that the campers stayed safe and that my fellow lifeguards and I would not need to use our training to save them. But since the groups were composed of young girls from grade school to high school, there was always lots of background chatter while rules were being given. This frustrated me. So I took a harder line with groups of girls that were talking over me. Eventually, a group leader complained to Hank that I was being too harsh on the girls. Hank then came up to me later, and told me about the complaint. He told me to be kinder while…

June 19 2014, A day that will forever follow me for the rest of my life. What started as a typical summer day’s work for me at Charlotte Country Club would soon turn into a nightmare that i’ll be forced to think about for eternity. It all started off When I was changing guard stands with two of my fellow lifeguards on duty. Nothing appeared to be out of order at first as I briefly scanned the pool while climbing the five steps to the top of the guard stand, upon reaching the top of the stand I saw a shadow that appeared to be on the bottom of the pool. I called out to the guard on the stand before me and asked him about it, he said “that the shadow was caused by ripples on the pool’s surface due to the wind” it was a fairly windy day so I…
