Linda Albert Weaknesses
No matter how many strengths there are, there is bound to have weaknesses. Starting with Linda Albert, the one weakness that I see her philosophy having is that students may take advantage of the teacher/student delegations. Some students may find that, since they have a voice in the process of creating the classroom rules, they may find it as a perfect opportunity to how they would want the class to run. The second weakness, that I found that Albert’s philosophy instilled is the lack of implementation of consequences. Personally, I feel that students should already know what the consequences are, for certain misbehaviors, at the start of the year. However, with Albert, her consequences are not as laid out and straight forward as I would prefer

    Blue’s class she reminded them of the Bill Nye video that they had watch, and the kids remember lots of things from the video. This was a great way to get the students engaged and to help with a visual representation. She also gave each of them a chance to explain their reason and definitions with the whole class. She kept the students engaged by having them all take turns reading and highlight as they went along. Her role was to present questions for the students, who were to think about the answer and then share with one another. It was a good idea to spilt the students in to partners to discuss. Comparing Mr.K’s methods with the latest findings in fields from music to math to medicine leads to a single , startling conclusion: It’s time to revive old-fashioned education. Not just old-fashioned in the sense that so many of us as kids, with strict discipline and unyielding demands. Because here’s the thing: It works.” (Lipman 6). In addition, this shows how effective a hard going teacher can be. Furthermore, many benefited from the old way of showing “constructive criticism”. An example of students benefiting is when Lipman writes herself, “Psychologist K. Anders Ericsson gained fame for his research showing that true expertise requires 10,000 hours of practice, a notion popularized by Malcolm Gladwell in his book “Outliers”. But an often-overlooked finding from the study is equally important: True expertise requires teachers who give “constructive, even painful, feedback,” as Dr.Ericsson put in a 2007 Harvard Business Review article. He assessed research on top performers in fields ranging from violin performance to surgery to computer programming to chess. And he found that all of them “deliberately picked unsentimental coaches who would challenge them and drive them to higher levels of performance.” (Lipman 10).
