Lindbergh Child Kidnapping Research Paper
Only about half the children kidnapped ever return home (National). The night of March 1, 1932, Charles Lindbergh and Anne Lindbergh experienced a night like they never imagined. Sadly for the Lindbergh family, they lost their child forever. Various events happened in the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby with many results leading to America attempting to find the kidnapper (History.com). The twenty month old Lindbergh baby boy was kidnapped from his nursery at around 9:00 p.m. The nurse was the first to detect the missing baby, and she immediately notified the parents. A ransom note demanding $50,000 to get the child back was found in the nursery window sill. The nursery was searched for evidence, but all that was found were muddy footprints and a partially broken ladder. Six days after the abduction, Charles received a second ransom note which demanded to …show more content…
The evidence found was all examined, the ladder was found to be extremely well made, the maker was great with wood. On May 23, the FBI told banks to be on the look out for ransom money. The money was paid all in gold certificates. Many rewards were offered for anyone who had an information. President Franklin Roosevelt then came out saying that the return to the Treasury of all gold certificates were of valuable aid to this case. Then copies of ransom bills were made with serial numbers on them and handed to employees of many stores. Since, rewards were offered this caused many frauds to say they knew the kidnapper. May 2, 1933 most of the certificates were found. The certificates all had the same name and address on them “J.J Faulkner, 537 W. 149th St.”, but that man was never found. In September 1934, all the gold certificates were found, and each certificate was placed on map in order to find who might have the money. This was going to help them extremely, but it is not what actually found the kidnapper

The Great Arizona Orphan Abduction is a gripping tale of true events that occurred in an Arizona mining town in the year 1904 when a group of nuns traveled from their homes in New York with 40 catholic orphans, mostly of Irish heritage, to Arizona to be united with new, strictly catholic families. However, they were unaware of the anger they would encounter or the danger they would be forced to try to escape once they arrived. And that the American Southwest in the turn of the century, is shaped almost entirely by the color of a man’s skin.…

The evening his son was abducted, Charles Lindbergh missed an appointment and stayed home. The same evening, Lindbergh had scheduled a speaking engagement in New York. He usually went to the appointments on time, but this time he came back from work in New York City and didn’t go to the dinner to speak. Lindbergh said that he “forgot the commitment”. However, he could have stayed home to conduct the kidnapping from inside the house. The Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping: Background Information states, “About 15 minutes before Charles Lindbergh arrived home, Anne thought she had heard a car in the gravel driveway. She looked but didn’t see anything, and the dog had not barked.” When the police asked Charles Lindbergh why his dog didn’t bark, Lindbergh said his dog wouldn’t hear someone who was being quiet. But, the dog might not have barked because it knew the person. If Charles Lindbergh missed the meeting to conduct the kidnapping, the dog would recognize its owner and would not bark. On the contrary, he could have stayed home because he was not feeling well. A key point is that he could have stayed home any other day, but he was home the day his son was seized and murdered. Coincidence? Some think not. Where some see coincidence, others see a conspiracy. In addition, the Lindbergh family usually spent their weekdays at their house in Englewood, but since little Charlie had a cold they decided to stay in their Hopewell house. Only a few people knew they were in their Hopewell house that Tuesday: Charles Lindbergh, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, and the maids. One of the maids, Violet Sharpe, had killed herself when the police questioned her about the kidnapping. Many say that she was guilty of accidentally giving out information about where the family was staying, but others say that Charles Lindbergh was blackmailing her for something else. Unlike the rest of the household, Lindbergh knew one important detail.…
