Link Crew Final Essay
The Embodiment of Leadership
Link crew is a powerful program that creates lifelong leaders who connect, encourage, and inspire positive change. The statement before is a mission for each leader to achieve in this program. along with the mission statement there are also core values; Joy, trust, character, and service. I believe that anyone can embody this mission as long as they are focused and passionate. This semester link crew helped me connect and embody the mission statement through contact with freshmen, my service project, and the assigned readings through the semester.
Because I strived to have contact with my freshmen. I formed new connections that inspired positive change. On orientation day, most

In the chapter “Genius or Lunatic?” from the book 10% Happier by Dan Harris, he talks about another writer who opened up his mind and inspired him to take a look at the way he has been living his life. He talks about “the voice that constantly judges and labels everything in its field of vision. It targets are’t just external; it often viciously taunts us, too” (Harris 56). This quote inspired me to listen too the little voice in my head and try to make it more positive. Instead of having so many negative thoughts about myself, I have tried to focus more on the positive statements that the voice is telling me.
In the end, link crew has subtly forced me to become a leader who strives to connect, encourage, and inspire positive change. Being a link crew leader has really helped me developed my questioning and relationship skills. I honestly feel like I have grown because of this program, and strongly believe that more people should become more involved in it. It is still amazing how this is the only program where everyone in the school is connected to it in some way. I am very glad that I became a link leader, and I will carry these values and memories with me throughout the rest of my

The best piece of advice I have ever received came from the assistant superintendent of Webb City High School, Dr. Trey Moeller. Our school has a program called Link Crew. During the summer, the incoming freshman will come to the high school and will be split into groups. The upperclassmen will be the freshman's group leaders. The point of this program is to make the freshman more comfortable in a new environment. My freshman year at Link Crew, Dr. Moeller asked us "When is the best time to plant a tree?" The answers he got back from us were much like "summer", “spring", or "when the weather's nice". Dr Moeller says "Although those answers could work, that is not the best time to plant a tree. The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago."…

In Alex Knapp’s essay, “Five Leadership Lessons from James T. Kirk,” he acknowledges the five main themes of leadership by incorporating fictional character, Captain Kirk, from Star Trek. The first component of leadership is never stop learning. Knapp indicates that being a leader does not necessarily signify to stop learning and that an individual can never obtain too much knowledge. An additional point, have advisors with different worldviews, demonstrates how a group of individuals having different viewpoints can potentially lead to superior and innovative outcomes. The author continues with his tactic on the topic of leadership with his third point, be part of the away team. This approach encourages leaders to be fearless on collaborating…

Attending the Pride friday at IUPUC before the beginning of school has been one of the most helpful events. By going to this I met some friends and learned more about the school itself. Although I have made the choice not to stay at IUPUC all four years of my college career, being here my first semester has started me off great. During this event they spoke of how we start and end our four years in the same way. I am just glad I have been able to enjoy my first semester by making some new friends, learning new strategies to working and figuring my life out.…

As a student, I try to achieve as many goals as possible. I have try to the best the student I could possibly be. I will admit this year wasn't the best for me. My grades weren't the greatest. But I don't grades should be the only thing that determines a high school student. I think who the person is on the inside what makes a high school student. I am a very kind person. I hate injustice done on anyone. I always stand up for what I believe in. I feel everyone should be given a fair chance in anything they do. I love being able to help anyone. I love knowing something I do can change someone's life. I use to do the Latin Club. I use to do the Earth Club. I use to do Build On. This year I have been more forced on the SATs and college. I want be a lawyer. Being able to someone is what love. The only thing I do outside of school is volunteer at the Norwalk Shelter. One challenge I faced in high school had to do with peer pressure. I was offered the chance to try weed. I knew that so many people at school did it, and I thought this was my chance to be popular. I didn't do it. I realized those people didn't want to be my friend. I realized that I didn't need to be popular. I am happy with my life just the way it is. I know who my friends are and it isn't those people. I realized I wanted to do it to become something I am not. I learned that day I should never lose my integrity. Someone once said, “Thoughts become words, words become actions, actions become character, character is everything." I didn't want to become that person I would have if I said yes. I wish I knew as a freshman to get involved more. When you are involved, it will help you in the long run, especially for college. Plus it is a great way to meet new people. In the lunch, I sit right across from the girl's restroom in the cafeteria. I sit with a cool and supportive group of friends. I love them like family. There you have it, I little bit about myself. I really want to do Link Crew because you get to…

As a straight A student all my life I have to work extra hard each and every day to be able to accomplish even my simplest goals because I know I should always push myself to become better at beating the game, that is life. But while all this is true, I know that no matter how hard I work I cannot possibly achieve all my goals and dream no matter what actions I take, at least not alone. John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” This powerful words are extremely meaningful, especially to me. This means that if you try your hardest regularly to not only gain new knowledge, become more productive, make new goals and wonder about your future, and become a better you, no matter what circumstances you are under you are a person who will help others even unintentionally. Personally, I know it can sometimes be hard to get through the day while being alert and ready to work, but when I see someone who is dedicated to not only exceeding themselves but to make others succeed too, it makes me want to do the same. I always go out of my way to help others because that is what a real leader would do. Joining the Beta Club where each member is a leader will allow me to…
