When Scotty criticizes the Kirk’s choice to take nuclear warheads on to the Enterprise it creates a very tense moment between the two team members. Scotty criticizes Kirk’s decision vehemently and when Kirk is still insistent on direction to load he nuclear warheads on the Enterprise, Scotty aggressively but half-heartedly offers up his resignation. In a surprising instant, Captain Kirk accepts his resignation which shocks Scotty. Though the Captain values Scotty’s opinion and expertise, he needed to move the mission forward and that was one of the conditions for it to do so. The back and forth between them is curbed instantly with Kirks acceptance of Scotty’s resignation changing an ambiguous moment into absolution.…

Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, has Ralph and Jack Merridew as two of the main characters. As they are on the island, they come between the issues of who is chief and who is not. Both characters display some qualities of a leader in different ways. If I were to pick a leader between the two, I would choose Ralph for he is organized, and thinks of everyone not just himself.…
The role of a leader is very important in any organization. Leadership styles have a direct and unique impact on the work environment and the success of an organization. A leader is someone who individuals look up to for guidance and support. Leaders are those individuals who are chosen to ensure that an organization’s goal is carried out. This paper analyzes the different attributes and styles of leaders, as well as looking at the leadership role of my current supervisor.…
‘Leadership can be learnt, if a person wants to be leader they can be a leader, just like other skills it can be learnt’.(Palmer,1998) As discussed in introduction…
Without proper guidance or counsel, a person cannot learn to develop the attributes of a leader. By extending the experience and advice from the past generation to the new generation, the members of the club can learn the mistakes of before and work hard to mend them and prevent them from ever being made again. With this concept, the members can then on avoid repeating the same errors that were already occurred in the past by learning from them and improving on the past miscalculations. Through leadership, one is directly making an impact on the society and the club itself; however, when the leadership has continued and been passed down for many generations to come, it becomes a legacy that further extends the impact in the society to the vast…
“In every day, there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact.” This quote from Les Brown has inspired me to become a encouraging and effective leader.…
Sanborn begins his book with laying the foundation of his definition of leadership. Sanborn (2006) argues, “Anyone at any level can learn to be a leader and help to shape or influence the world around them” (p. xii). Thus, Sanborn suggests that anyone has the ability to make a positive difference in the world. Sanborn goes further and challenges the reader, “If you had no title or ability to reward or…

“Leadership without perspective and point of view isn’t leadership-and of course it must be your own perspective, your own point of view. You cannot borrow a point of view any more than you can borrow someone else’s eyes. It must be authentic, and if it is, it will be original, because you are original”. (Bennis, 1992, p.122)…
My previous leadership philosophy was rooted in what had been my overall educational philosophy. Over the past few years, I have developed a philosophy of teaching that carries over into my philosophy with regard to leadership. I believed that we should be teaching our students the basics or essentials necessary in order to maintain a job in today 's workforce. I also believed that we should take advantage of technology available today; this technology could be used to facilitate the teaching of essential skills through structured…
Andrew Carnegie once said, “No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself or get all the credit for doing it.” Teamwork is the key component to achieving something great, if a leader wants to be great, his team must also be great. Ruling and dictating as one individual never leads to positive results. Authoritative leadership is less effective than collaborative leadership because fear and power create anarchy and dissent, while respect and decency create a harmonious society. This claim can be supported by Confucius, Machiavelli, Plato and Macbeth.…
I began this book like most books, with great anticipation that it was going to be amazing, why else would a qualified instructor assign it. I assumed that it would be a shining example of the finest managerial principals in existence all compacted into a simple to read text with plenty of graphs and helpful handouts. I was certain that I would be a more effective leader for having read it. I spent time strategizing how I would write my paper with great enthusiasm. Then, I read the book.…
It was said by John F. Kennedy that “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” Indispensable factors are those known to be undeniably necessary, essential, or obligatory to one another. This unique relationship between leadership and learning is particularly relevant to my motivation. The ambition I have to become a Naval Officer stems from my drive to lead; but I dare not lead without continuing to pursue my hunger to learn.…
In this world, there are variety of ways for everyone to experience “leadership.” For instance, an explorer that uses his/her tools to create paths for others to follow can surely be considered as being a “leader,” or shows “leadership.” Furthermore, students who creates clubs and teaches other students with the same interest may also be considered as showing “leadership.” However, there are not only people that show strong leadership, but there are also people that show weak leadership. George Orwell, the author of Animal Farm, uses characters of the book to show poor and excellent leadership, and sends readers a significant message: when proper leadership is not portrayed from the leader, that leader cannot stay in that position any longer.…
