Purpose: To inform the audience about how to maintain a long distance relationship
Central Idea: Long –distance relationships are more successful if the participants are willing to communicate often, trust each other, be committed to each other and be in love. (Communication, trust, commitment and love) are needed in a long distance relationship in order to be successful.
Introduction:
A. How many people in this class are/were in a long distance relationship?
B. Those of you who raised your hand know what a LDR is and how challenging they can be but not impossible when there is love.
C. According to Suzanne Philips a psychologist of Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y a long-distance relationship or LDR is typically an intimate relationship that takes place when the partners are separated by a considerable distance.
D. Recent studies showed that more than 3 million married couples live apart and 25-50 % college students are currently in long-distance relationships and up to 75% of them have engaged in one at some point where the distance ranged from 35 to 4000 miles apart from each other (ICA).
E. I was in a LDR when I was 21 and according to (The FORMER Center for the Study of Long Distance Relationships) most people in LDR are in this age group.
F. Why LDR? Because throughout my relationship my wife’s friends would always tell her, they could never do it and also that they did not think I would end up with her, as a result, they have been in different relationships and as of today they are not stable.
G. Transition: Today I will share with you three things you or anyone you know will need to improve the chances of a LDR’s success. Body:
