Longer School Day Research Paper
Argumentative Essay

Should students have a longer day? Students should indeed have a longer because without school they won’t be able to withstand life and the challenges it presents on a daily basis. It is our sole responsibility to broaden the horizon of every child possible in order to successfully shape them into proper young adults. With a longer school day we will be able to accomplish so much more and assist the students that can not afford the help needed outside of school due to financial issues.

Every student needs help in different areas and having a longer school day will help them be able to access the subjects that need the most attention instead of letting them struggle in silence. The current amount of time allowed by the school board is disabling them to grow in a developmentally- friendly environment by rushing through in order to meet a deadline at the expense of the children’s future. Furthermore, the possibility of neglecting the inept opportunity to better serve our students is fiscally irresponsible and apprehensible. We, as a society should in fact do everything in our power to better the lives or our children and our future

Would you classify yourself as a “Monday-Hater”? A vast majority of students immensely detest Monday because it signifies the end of a relaxing weekend and the beginning of another stressful, busy week. However, if a four day school week was implemented then Monday could be tagged on to the weekend and everyone would become “Tuesday-Haters”. Woodbury High School (WHS) would benefit from a switch to a four day school week because it would save District 833 money, increase student attendance, and decrease the amount of stress in students.…

P.O, senators and judge, I stand as Senator Ortega to keep start times the same for the sake of everyone . School start times will cause a burden in many situations. Moving school start times later will result in increased costs to school systems and unacceptable disruption to many families. Advocates — and editorial boards — may choose to minimize or ignore these impacts, but local school boards cannot. School boards are responsible for balancing competing priorities in the face of limited resources, and should consider return on investment before embarking on such changes. The AAP’s Adolescent Sleep Working Group reviewed studies involving inadequate sleep in teens. Researchers analyzed the harmful effects sleep deprivation—anything less…

Should Portsmouth students go to school for four of five days a week? Portsmouth is a small school district in central Rhode Island. This town's council is not giving the schools enough money, so that is why there are so many budget cuts. Many of the decisions of the school system are pressured upon the school committee. This school's committee, like every school committee, has been elected to office by the parents and the town's people. Portsmouth should have a four day school week because the four day week saves money, provides extra opportunities for both parents and students, and gives students more time to get better grades.…

Therefor I don’t think our school board should add time to each school day. I think we should keep our schedule starting at 7:30 and ending at 2:30. That way we can get home do chores, play and go to any afterschool activities. If we changed our school hours that would interfere with parents/guardians work schedules. Now with the schedules our school has we don’t get to restless with the teachers or other…

for high schools. While some passionately believe that later start times may be troublesome, it is not. Students circadian rhythm are on schedule, causing them to be healthier; their testing scores, grades and attentiveness are increased; students’ performance in sports is positively amplified; community service, library hours, student jobs and school clubs are not affected; and the number of drowsy teen accidents are reduced. This still may seem like it does not prove great results, but it does. Schools all over the United States have made this change and it has brought great improvement. With this new efficiency that high school students will possess, it not only improves their study habits, but also their school’s overall performance. This is not a drastic change in time, it will only be pushed back an hour or two. Teachers, parents, school administrators need to start discussing this topic. The more later they push away from deciding, the more sleep deprived the students are. This is a complicated issue to decide on. They need to hold staff meetings at least once a day in the week to discuss transportation, teachers’ schedules, after school activities, and so on. Involve parents in the decision first and then see what happens next. But districts need to keep in mind that the benefits are far greater than the…

According to Researchers at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research, “On average, kids ages 3 to 12 spent 29 hours a week in school [in 1997], eight hours more [21 hours a week] than they did in 1981” (Labi 33). This indicates that an average student spends approximately six hours per day at school, a shocking quarter of the whole day. Also, school hours have fiercely risen year after year, diminishing opportunities for other activities time-wise. This complication if really a “chain effect,” as one long school day leads to other activities being shortened; in this sense, students are exposed to a less diverse assortment of…
