Longer School Hours Essay

Students success can be guaranteed by modifying the length of school periods, hence making school hours longer. This will allow students to actually learn the material expected, and it will also allow students to have a better comprehension of the material. This will improve student overall grades, and guarantee the admission to a good university. Many students would agree that this would improve students understanding of material, however, many would not approve of this change because of the pressure that would be placed upon them would be greater than the pressure they already placed. In a certain school program called KIPP, students have longer school days and shorter vacations. The class hours are ninety minutes of english, ninety minutes of math, an hour of science, an hour of social science, and about two hours of music, every day of the week from seven twenty-five until five p.m. And after school ends there are homework clubs, detention, and sport teams.
The program indicated that without lunch and recess students spent fifty to sixty percent more time in school than average public schools. These rigorous expectations make students adaptable to any circumstance in where they will encounter hardships and be able to more educated as well. The most important fact of this is that KIPP is a middle school. Many would argue that students will actually fail due to the more hours of school they would have, however, in the school program KIPP the students are in middle school, and the percentage of them struggling is slim. The modification will be placed on high schoolers, and the expectations of high schoolers is higher than the expectations of middle schoolers.
