Malcolm Gladwell Marita's Bargain Analysis
Malcolm, Gladwell. Marita's Bargain. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Malcolm´s essay was informative on the prosperous middle school students of charter schools also known as KIPP schools. KIPP is a ¨Knowledge Is Power Program¨ and is located in New York City, in the South Bronx, which is one of the poorest neighborhoods. This essay points out the reasons why these schools help students achieve success and their understanding of the students. The KIPP schools would seem as if it were not all that great because of where the location of the school is and students would seem as the kind that would make the teachers despair. Except once you enter the building, the environment is completely different. Students are under protocol which is called ¨SSLANT¨:
smile, sit up, listen, ask questions, nod when being spoken to, and track with your eyes. KIPP does not just teach the students about learning but also having respect towards one another.
