Los Hervideros
Away from the coastal resorts the volcanic island of Lanzarote is a natural wonder full of surprises for the intrepid explorer.
As you drive up the west coast of Lanzarote on the LZ 2 towards Timanfaya National Park make a left turn onto the LZ 703 as you come to the salt flats at Janubio and continue north towards the town of El Golfo.
The scenic LZ 703 hugs the ocean on this part of Lanzarote and has been the backdrop for many a car commercial thanks to the crashing Atlantic waves and the way the tarmac appears like one long stretch of carpet laid on top of the solidified lava.
Los Hervideros is located about halfway between the salt flats and El Golfo and has ample cliff top parking for visitors, so resist the temptation to pull into one of the many lay-bys as Los Hervideros is where all the real

Unlike many of the other attractions in Lanzarote a visit to Los Hervideros is free, but it is also unsupervised which means you need to keep a close hold of any young children and like any adventure that involves interacting with nature be sure to wear sensible shoes.
A trip to Los Hervideros can easily be combined with a visit to the hauntingly green hued lagoon of Charco de Los Clicos, one of the inspirations for Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s award winning film “Broken Embraces”. Charco de Los Clicos was also used as the setting for Raquel Welch’s animal clad bikini scene in the Hammer Film Production of “one million years BC”.
Formed when fissures in the lava allowed sea water to fill a volcanic crater, the lagoon gets its colour from Ruppia maritima algae that thrive due to the high sulphur content in the water. Set against the black sand beach, red cliffs and ocean it is quite spectacular, a portrait any professional photographer would love to have in their

The prime focus of this piece is Mt.Hood, which is centered in the middle of the picture plane halfway up the canvas. The mountain in the piece is opaque as there are no t-intersections within it. Behind the mountain various tones of orange, red, purple, and yellow are used to create a stunning sunset. Underneath the mountain, short straight strokes of numerous shades of green, blue, orange, and purple were used to create an image of thousands and thousands of trees. Close to halfway on the canvas, the image of Mt.Hood, the sunset, and the rows of trees is reflected on the water of Trillium Lake. Tehan utilizes the same colors she used in the top half of the canvas to create the reflection on the water. Centered on the bottom of the canvas towards the left side of the piece is a railing painted using various tones of brown, black, purple, yellow, pink, and orange. Tehan's delicate use of her pallet knife allowed her to create straight geometric lines for the railing. It also allowed her to give the railing an illusory texture.…

My favorite animals are Dolphins and whales and it is because of that love that this photo caught my eye the most. Ever since I was a little girl I loved the ocean and I wanted to be a marine biologist so I could work closely with those beautiful animals. The artworks I tend to be attracted to are that of dolphins and whales and of oceanic scenery. To look at the photograph of the humpback whale, captured in his natural habitat, it looks like a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The whale was beautifully captured in action during his swim. I feel the light that is shining through the ocean surface is illuminating the whale in his dive because around the whale, on the edges, are dark and black; only the whale is brightly shining. Then I looked into the whales’ eye and I felt a kind of loneliness and it looked like the whale was sad. I do not know if there were other whales with him but in his eye it looked like he was sad and lonely and wanted a friend. Wayne Levin’s “diving Humpback Whale” photograph, and his other works, gives us a look into their world and I feel that the black and white genre gave a more detailed look of the whale. The black and white color makes it seems timeless and…
