Lowering Voting
My View on Lowering the Voting Age Voting, in my opinion, should not be lowered to 16 from the already legal age of 18. Coming from a 16 year old myself, I believe we are not capable of deciding something so drastically important. Yes, 16 is where freedoms begin, such as being able to get a driver's license, or begin working in the workforce. But voting, I think might be too much or even not enough for our age. First of all, at the middle age between adulthood and teenhood, 16, decisions aren’t entirely made well and we are far from mature. Sixteen year olds are still budding into maturity and learning new things everyday. Yes, we make efforts to be independent but, that’s the issue. Sometimes choices at this age aren’t processed thoroughly, and can lead to bad results. Another reason why it should not be lowered is because of the “immaturity” aspect is that we are still figuring out who we are. At this age, we still are finding who to fit in with, what we like and dislike, and so on. We can easily be peer pressured into the wrong decisions, in this case, who to vote for, which could lead to something terrible not only for you, but for the nation itself. Lastly, if the voting age was brought down to 16, candidates …show more content…
Voting is the least of their priorities. They are worried about so many other things like school, family, sports, absolutely whatever. Voting isn’t an everyday thought for most teens I would think. Teens, a lot of the time simply don’t take or have the time either. They have so many other things to go and that would be in the back of their minds compared to the other things going on in their life. I also think with this age group’s busy schedule, and if some of the teens did decide to vote, they may just choose someone at random without doing any research into the candidate. That could have huge and drastic positive or negative effect on the

Summary Response The article “ Kids are kids until they commit crimes ” by Marjie Lundstrom talks about how the under-eighteen crowds are considered kids .Yet when they commit a crime or start acting inadequately they start considering them as adults and they start receiving the consequences an adult would have . Many people do not consider this fair .That is why Ron Wilson ,Democratic State Rep. of Houston suggested to lowering the voting age to fourteen . He also said that “if you want to throw the adult book at kids”(paragraph 8) and give them the consequences of an adult then they can be able to vote too and do things an adult does. This article also talks about how people have created an image that teenagers are something to…

People at age 16 have no political interest most of the time. They wouldn’t vote anyway due to the lackof knowledge. The percentage of voters then will decrease even more due to a larger voting population, but the same amount of voters. This means voting will not change, so there is no point of changing it.…

The proposal to raise the minimum licensing age from 16 to 18 should be rejected for a number of reasons. For one there are no statistics that prove 16 year old drivers are responsible for accidents, so it wouldn't be fair to penalize them. Also, for most young people, the use of a car is a necessity.…

Voting is a very important part to America. If we did not vote we wouldn't have any presidents. Voting is also a way to express what you believe. Less than 50 percent of eligible young voters ages 18 to 29 voted. 19% of all votes came from young voters. And not all elections are decided by hundreds and thousands of votes, the Alaskan congressional race was decided by a single…

So many teenagers under the age of 18 and many adults too argue that the government should drop the voting age to 16 instead of 18. They say that this would instantly improve the voting participation percentages. I do not fully agree with this because the percentage of people who are 18 and older is so much greater to the percentage of people from 16-17 years of age and I do not believe that allowing people two more years younger would improve the voting participation percentage that much. I do believe that people under the age of 18 should start having some sortof poltical opinions because yes it is their future too, but I believe that the problem of the voting turn out isnt because 16 and 17 year olds arent allowed to vote,…

Why would you think 16 years old would be a good age to vote when teen drivers are the most dangerous on the road. Some states teens are not even allowed to get their permits as young as 15. According to the california department of motor vehicles “ drivers aged 16-19 have the highest average annual crash and traffic violation rates of any other age groups”. So why would you want to put the future of our world into the hands of teens who can not even focus and take their time driving. Voting is a great thing to have in life and you shouldn't be playing around with it, it has more power than you think and should be used correctly. It is a privilege. By dropping the voting age you are dropping the honor of having the right to vote people have fought so hard and protested to have the right to vote that we should really think about who we give the right to. Voting should not be treated as a joke it should be earned not given because voting has some much power just not for one person but for everyone and their lives. Would teens really take voting seriously? Would this really benefit our country? 18 might be the legal age but the only factor we must remember is all teens are not the same and not all of them will treat voting the same way. We can't just go off of the reckless teen. We need to take in consideration those who truly care about…

16 year olds are very immature when it comes to politics. “Young adults indeed in many cases are profoundly ignorant about politics” (Brennan). Many people believe that the voting age should be lowered, also many people think that 16 year olds are too immature to vote. “Most scientist agree that youngsters in their mid teens aren't suited to politics” (West). Although many people believe that 16 year olds should vote studies show that 16 year olds are not ready in age and maturity to vote yet.…

At the beginning only the wealthy, ones who paid taxes could exercise their right to vote, this however has changed as country progressed. We can understand that with time it was unavoidable to allow women vote as there was always pressure in regards to equality, perhaps it was the same case with lower social classes as the decisions taken by government affected them as well, however it has taken until 1969 for the government to allow its citizens to vote at the age of eighteen. Since the past few years, there has been a debate arising whether the voting age should be lowered even more, to allow people aged 16 years old to take part in the voting.. There are some strong arguments against allowing under 18s to vote, some of which are points made on basis of traditional values, others try to point out the fact that 16 year olds are politically unaware and could be easily persuaded into making a wrong decision, or it being taken under influence (or forced in less common cases) of their guardian. To keep in mind is the fact that a brain of 16 year old individual is working in a slightly different way that the one of an adult, also inevitable is the fact that they have different priorities and needs when compared to adults, perhaps it may be that one clever political party would try to sway luck in their favour by pledging to lower the amount of days they need to attend school, extend summer holidays or ban demanding teachers from tutoring them. Those ideas sound ridiculous to the majority of us, adults who treat their life seriously, and try to plan their future up until certain extent, however to some of the younger generation it may sound…

A lot of thing are said to happen if the voting age is lowered to the age of 16. It isn't the first time the voting age been changed from one thing to another. Just think about it, 16 year old aren't ready to make them type of decision at that age. I'm not sure if even 18 has the mindset of voting because they are caught up in other thing rather than voting at that age. As stated in the essay only 38% of 18-24 year old voted in the 2012 elections. Lowering the age would drop the turnout rate majorily.…

    The Voting Age, 16?

One could argue either aspect of the voting issue. They both have good and bad outcomes. (Freedom, the power to act, speak, or think without restraints.) Sometimes people are given too much freedom they take advantage of it and make stupid decisions. Teenagers do this often; therefore they might not take things seriously, and could make a big impact either negatively or positively. Responsibility and maturity come with growing up and making good choices. If teens were given the right to vote, they more than likely would not make or take the time to watch political debates, or anything else that might pertain to the voting issue. The generation of today might have good ideas, along with the capability of achieving many feats. Some things people do, and ideas people have makes one wonder sometimes! Should the voting age be changed to 16?…

Neglected for a generation, a troublesome political question is back : when should young people be able to vote for candidates in elections? Conservative peer Lord Lucas of Crudwell and Dingwall recently tabled a Private Members Bill in the Lords. It proposed a voting age of 16. And this week, for the first time, a national coalition has been launched at the Houses of Parliament. The Votes at 16 Campaign is backed by a wide range of groups – from the National Black Youth Forum and Plaid Cymru to the YMCA and Liberal Democrat Youth and Students. Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission’s Sam Younger (true to his surname) has backed an independent review of the current voting age. The Minister for Young People, John Denham, has agreed to look closely at its findings, due the end of this year.…
