Lucky Success
To some people, success is based on luck, a random whim of fate, a chance roll of the dice. But nothing could be further from the truth. Success, to a great extent, can be influenced by luck, but this is not to say that luck is an accident.

Luck is predictable. With hard work, it can be controlled. By concentrating on several "luck factors"—key areas of your life that influence your future success—you can take the reigns of chance and feel yourself racing forward at a greater rate than you have ever imagined. You will get more done, earn more rewards, recognition, and esteem, have more doors opened for you, and experience more of the things that everybody refers to as "luck." In The Luck Factor, Brian Tracy will teach you the skills you need to experience higher levels of success and satisfaction in all areas of your life. Listen to this comprehensive, idea-packed program and learn how to:

• Increase the probability of success in any arena

Whether success is by chance, is up to you to interpret what chance means. If chance means that the kids born earlier in the year were lucky enough to be born at that time, then yes, success comes by chance. The way I interpret is that success does not come from chance. Yes, these kids were born earlier in the year, therefore, were given a better chance. But through that chance, they were given better opportunities and the help from better piers to become successful. The question, “does success come from chance?” could really go either way. It is all about how you interpret the question. But when it comes down to it, you cannot become successful on your…

Luck is something that almost everyone experiences. To experience it more, however, one must work harder. According to the online dictionary, luck is a combination of circumstances, events, etc, operating by chance to bring good or ill to a person. Abraham Lincoln once said “The harder I work, the luckier I get.” There is a lot of truth in his statement. The better one prepares oneself for a task, the more likely luck will grace him. For example, in the most recent Summer Olympic Games, there were two races when Michael Phelps, known for the seven gold medals he collected in swimming, won by a total of nine hundredths of a second ' one race by just a hundredth. Some critics call it luck. Others even call it divine intervention. Logically speaking, it was the result of all the hard work he put into his preparation. His performance was not just a fruit of his hard work, but also a fruit of the environment in which he trained in. True, he is a very talented swimmer, but his skill was honed also because the environment where he trained. The training environment he and his teammates had was a luxury not available to most of his opponents. It is also a benefit of the economic success of his country.…

Every goal we list isn't just a dream, we will sacrifice everything in order to achieve it, and every obstacle we overcome, strengths our expectations in succeeding. Through every step, we question our luck, some of us fail and when they do, the only excuse they give is "bad luck". In my opinion, luck does exist but it won't play a huge roll in us if we worked hard enough.…

The first incident that I think was really impacted by luck, which in this case happened to be both bad and good luck was when Bilbo and his friends were captured by trolls and were almost eating. Luckily Gandlaf showed up just in time to save them. He did this by getting the trolls to argue long enough until the sun came up and turned them into stone. (Hobbit, P. # 40-41) Another incident that shows both good and bad luck was when Bilbo falls on the floor in the mountain caves that the goblins lived in and gets separated from the rest of his friends. Bilbo good luck keeps him from being discovered while he was unconscious and helps him find the ring that plays a big part of the rest of the story. (Hobbit, P. # 67-68)…

This deterministic approach is too “hand off.” Reshler eventually identifies what luck is, and juxtaposes it to Fate and Fortune. “Luck is a matter of having something good or bad happens that lies outside the horizon of effective foreseeability.” Luck is something unpredictable. Rescher expounds on the conundrum of luck, asserting there are three necessary attributes for an event to correctly be assessed as luck. A beneficiary or maleficiary, a development that is positive or negative from the standpoint of the interest of the affected individual, and that it is fortuitous. This approach seems to claim a methodical game such as chess or even me writing this paper relies on luck. The latter example seems like a hyperbole, yet I am maleficairy in writing the paper, I would also rather be playing Dota 2 instead of writing this paper, I also had planned on writing this paper two nights ago. I’m truly unlucky that I have to write a…

To serve, as it does, to convince those with lack of motivation, or perhaps imagination, to remain stagnant with the hope that chance will smile upon them, the concept of luck is a farce. This is a truism that successful people understand. In fact, most successful people will state this truth almost as a proverb. For example, Oprah Winfrey has been quoted as saying, “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” Oprah Winfrey has the innate understanding that luck isn’t really luck at all. In fact, luck is the culmination of hard work.…

I for one find myself disagreeing with Mr. Milton. As opposed to how it was hundreds of years ago, luck is a different concept in today’s time. Today, luck is a concept that can only be applied to the top one percent also known as the wealthiest people of America. People in the middle and working classes all work for the opportunities that they are given; luck has no determination on who gets what. In my personal experience, my family has had to work for everything that we own, and we have never seen “luck” in effect. I fully understand what Mr. Milton was trying to say, and he is not wrong entirely. Milton believed that when a plan is designed well enough luck comes out of the planning, and everything falls into place. However, not everything will fall perfectly into place every time. Things will fall through and fail, and you have no choice but to pick yourself back up and keep pushing through the obstacles. I have observed over the past couple of years that people have become too dependent on luck for results instead of working for them. This is a similar situation that my current classmates and I are going through currently. Too many of my classmates will depend on luck and chance to get them the same opportunities as someone with a college degree, despite not going to get one themselves. This is why I will get a Bachelor’s degree and…

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, luck is defined as good fortune, prosperity or success. Opportunity is defined as a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. Oprah Winfrey states, "Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity," as an inspirational tool for her audience to reach their goals by putting in the hard work. Opportunities in life are not just handed out but these chances are opened by the determination and drive that each individual puts forth instead of wishing on luck and chance that their goals will be reached.…

The idea of success varies from person to person. What one person would consider success can be the polar opposite of what someone else considers success. Steve Mueller, the founder of Planet of Success, goes deeper into this topic in his scholarly article “The Meaning of Success and How to Define Success in Life”. In “The Meaning of Success and How to Define Success in Life” Steve explains how “The true meaning of success goes far beyond the common definitions of success…. Quite the opposite: true success in life cannot be measured….”. Steve’s credibility originates from his various articles relating to success. Articles such as “What is Success”, “What Does Success Mean to You?”, “How Do You Measure Success?”, and “The Principles of Success”. Having such a wide understanding and broad view of success gives him sufficient credibility in this topic. Steve also utilizes personal and past experience to persuade his readers.…

There are many ways to describe or think about being lucky, but what is being lucky? Oprah Winfrey said, “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity,” but isn't this idea the opposite of luck? The quote from Oprah, to me, means luck is the opportunity. I would say perseverance creates opportunities, not luck. With this being the case, then, what is being lucky?…
