Mama Monologue
Mama...are you capable of coming back. I am yearning to hear you speak. I fancy to seeing you again. I need to hold you again to never let you go. You told me not to toy with death, this was the one time I didn't listen. Me being “THE” best doctor in the macrocosm I can't lose a patient let alone my mother. I have some cronies at Hopkins who fancy to aid my experiments to beat death. Hopkins has a defibrillator in the lab. “If my belief in Frankenstein being able to make life with electricity we can do the same to prevent death” I said to my colleagues. I'm going first I proclaimed. Keep watch on the monitor and let me flatline for a minute. A deep silence arises all you hear are the lasting beats of my heart till...nothing. A simple minute …show more content…
I enter through the creaky gate of the decaying garden; walking through the yard; her pulchritudinous roses, withered away with each step I took. Peregrinating to the door the wood rotting at the edges termites conversing, as if we were at a party, I refused to touch the repulsing door but in consideration for my mothers salubriousness. However the home didn't have the smell of death or decay, it smelt of warm cinnamon bread toasting in the oven. Warm Cinnamon bread the most delectable treat mama ever made for me; I couldn’t resist to take a …show more content…
According to the assessment on mama, I had to question Lilith with simple questions like “who is this woman because this isn’t my mama,” nevertheless my momma has two birthmarks, each on a one of her shoulders one of a heart the other of a strawberry this woman has neither of the two. Lilith then told me that William and Leonard, two of my closest cronies from Hopkins had come by to borrow mama for the experiment that we had done a while back, about beating death. Lilith had finished telling that she thought it was a good idea on behalf of how I’ve lost everyone dear to me, my father, my sisters, my only brother, and she didn’t want me to lose my

Crazy Ava is directly inside the open door with the EMTs at her side, fussing over her again. Except this time something is different. For sacrificing her and her family's religious beliefs and knowing she would get beaten, certifies Mama as an excellent mom. Continuing being a good mother, Mama tries to hide her beatings from her children. Mama’s “eyes were vacant, like the eyes of those mad people who wandered around the roadside garbage dumps in town, pulling grimy, town canvas bags with their life fragments inside. ‘There was an accident, the baby is gone,’ she said” (34). Even though Mama is beaten until the point where her baby had perished, she is willing to keep it a secret in order to make her children not view their father as a complete monster. Also, the fact that her eyes were empty shows how she had lost hope again. This means that she was willing to keep her loss of hope to herself and try and not scar her children for the rest of their lives. Mama is the nicest and most thoughtful mother because she suffers just so her children can have a better…

    Mama Archetype Essay

Furthermore, her characteristics align with that of the ‘Mammy’ archetype, and she is portrayed as an elderly, loving motherly figure, providing to her family’s needs. However, she is also depicted as somewhat uneducated and bound by the traditions of her past, which reinforces the ‘Mammy’ archetype, of a women who despite being a caring motherly figure, does not know much outside of her household duties due to a lack of opportunity to further educate herself. This ‘uneducated’ attitude can be particularly seen through Mama’s interactions with Beneatha, a more educated and modern young female characters, in their discussions regarding heritage and education. Mama is unable to understand Beneatha’s refusal to assimilate and need to express herself as an African-American women who is proud of her heritage, asking her continuously ‘what is it you want to express?’ This creates a sense of irony around the situation by displaying Mama’s lack of understanding towards Beneatha’s desire to destroy societies black stereotypes, whilst allowing Hansberry to simultaneously reinforce the concept that Mama is a stereotypical character stuck in the ‘Mammy’ archetype and unable to break out of it.…
