Marching Band Leadership Report

Being a leader for a large group means more than just a title. As co-drum major of my high school marching band, I had to use leadership to help the group has had to overcome. The title bears numerous responsibilities and in various styles, but choosing to lead by example while having a sense of humor has shown as the most effective way of leading for me. Performing as a marching band requires lots of dedication and hard work; however, when the group starts lacking in motivation to progress, a leader must step in. For the group to overcome these issues,we had to get together and discuss what was keeping the group from progressing. Leading by example is not enough for a group to follow, sometimes it requires actual action as well. I use my sense
of humor to help me develop close relationships and to bring everyone together to accomplish goals. However when the group is not advancing that is when a leader must revert to a stern persona, and it's effects of it are not always positive. During a practice, my peers lacked dedication and delayed by almost an hour leading me to talk with them. Having a serious talk with peers felt nerve-wracking and my emotions consist of worry and sadness. Talking with peers is a leader's step that gives me distress for those who might not be pleased with me due to the talk with my peers. Yet there are times in order to get objectives done, not everyone is going to be pleased with the process. Perceiving that this was the most effective way to get the motive across the entire team is something that no one can do on my behalf, yet it is all more rewarding in the end. Taking difficult paths is what I believe enabled us to succeed and rise to new standards in the long run. This reflects on myself as a person and how leading means bearing a title that is given with heavy responsibilities as well. These experiences have allowed us to succeed in higher merits.
