And he is none other than Ferdinand Emanuel Edralin Marcos, SR. (September 11, 1917-September 28, 1989). He’s the tenth president of the Philippines who had a lot of achievements, not just in his studies, but also in his career. He was also a politician and a great lawyer. In fact, he won his first trial just for the first time. Also, he had a lot of projects that really helped those who are in need such as in the field of infrastructure, public health, entrepreneurial projects, the first land reform movement and many more. Of all of his contributions in the Philippines, the one that really made an impact to me is the Martial Law. He was the one who disciplined the Filipinos by declaring Martial Law. Because of this law, the crime rates in the country were lessened. I wondered if only he is still the president now, then probably the jails here in the Philippines wouldn’t be as full as today because the criminals will not do such a thing that they will regret it for their entire lives. Even now, the elders can’t still forget the accomplishment of our former president Marcos because it truly made an impact to the individuals.
For me, even though he had a lot of different issues in his term, what matters the most is the good things that he had done for our country because those issues are lighter than his works. In fact, every person has its own flaws—even us and if we only focus on his bad side, then we wouldn’t see his brighter side if we are very busy finding imperfections. That’s why after reading and researching his life and contributions, they’re way more important than his imperfections. That’s why I chose him as my greatest president.
