    1. I am going to describe David and his sister Jennifer. Before David “jumped” into PLEASANTVILLE, he is isolated. He only has one friend, when he wants to hang out with a girl, he pretends that he is talking to the girl, but the truth is he stands a hundred yards across the schoolyard from the girl. He reads all the books, and was addicted himself to the firm: Pleasantville which he can remember all the name of the person, all relationships between every characteristic, all the words they said, and even the music in that firm. I think the most important reason of this behavior is that he is too lonely; his whole word is about the books and movie. But his sister, Jennifer is totally different. She wears the latest clothes, is boy crazy, and follows the crowd. Before she gets into Pleasantville, I think she is a bad student.…

The story is based in 1960s American suburbs and is told through the eyes of a teenager named Connie. The theme of the story revolves around Connie and her feelings as it is basically told through the eyes of a teenager. The reader is first introduced to the main character Connie and the theme of innocence is established. The first parts of the essay tell us how Connie does not get along with her mother or her sister. It is shown in some ways how Connie dislikes her sister June as her mother keeps praising her. It is very clear through some parts that her mother prefers her sister June to Connie because June is organized and cleans her room. “June was twenty four and still lived at home” and “she was so plain and chunky and steady that Connie had to hear her praised all the time by her mother and her mother’s sisters” shows how much her mother liked June’s habits and disliked the way Connie kept self-obsessing which was normal for any teenager. The way Connie keeps checking herself in the mirror and in people’s eyes shows how her sexuality is developing. She is shown to use hair spray and like her mother refers to her “Trashy daydreams” is seen obsessing about her appearance and her looks by the author.…

I remember it all. I can still feel the warm summer wind gliding my sun-kissed cheeks. I didn’t usually have all of my windows down while I drove, especially not on the way to my lackluster burden, otherwise known as my job. Today was an exception, however, summer was quickly approaching its end, and I would be once again bound by the chains of high school. I decided to cherish every little bit that I had left. As I pulled in, I thought to myself, “just another ordinary day of work.” Oh…

The view on ignorance vs. knowledge from the perspective of Mildred. As apparently shown in the book that she is on the shallow side, not knowing what is going on in the world. While she begins to realize that she was ignorant, it was too late for her. My view on ignorance vs. knowledge is that ignorance is better in the right setting. "I wouldn't do a thing like that. Why would I do a thing like that?" (pg8). Mildred said this quote after taking the pills as if almost she doesn't even remember "Millie, did you see that?" "I saw it, I saw it! " (pg44). Another quote from Mildred where she does not even know what murder and killing is and finds it as if it is pleasant. "Let's talk politics, to please Guy!" (pg46). The quotes also show her ignorance…

You ever had both positive and negative feelings about something? If so, then no, you aren’t odd. We may hate our jobs, but love the paycheck we get at the end of the month. We may love indulging on junk food, but hate the dreadful feeling afterwards. We may desire an attribute about someone, such as their empathy, but dislike their bad temper, and this is how the term “ambivalence” emerges.…

The novel opens, revealing the spirit and personality of Jane, as it experiences suppression when she questions why she is being punished. Mrs. Reed answers to Jane and tells her that it is unacceptable for a child to speak to an elder in that manner. The verbal attacks continue when Mrs. Reed's son, John Reed, angrily tells Jane that she is dependent and undeserving of the food and clothes that are provided at the expense of his mother. John Reed, then physcially attacks her, and Jane is locked away in the red room. She goes on to make an apparent point as to the unfairness of how she is being treated. "'Unjust! - unjust!' said my reason, forced by the agonizing stimulus into precocious though transitory power; and Resolve, equally wrought up, instigated some strange expedient to achieve escape from insupportable oppression- as running away, or, if that could not be effected, never eating or drinking more, and letting myself die" (Bronte 21 ). In this case, Jane's gender is not the reason she is being punished, it is more her childish nature. As she grows older, the same treatment remains for Jane, making this a prominent portion of the novel. It also is the setting stone for how women are…
