Mario is “a murderous, womanizing, animal abuser; a cruel, misanthropic sociopath” (01:12-01:19). Mario is a staple of video games and has been since Nintendo created him back in 1983, so most people when hearing he is evil or insane would immediately disagree. I’m here to tell you why he is most definitely insane, Mario is clinically insane because he is a cold-blooded killer, he doesn't care about his family, and he is abusive to the animals and the people of his own kingdom.
Toads, these weird humanoids with a mushroom attached to their head. Well, what is I told you that every time you smashed a brick or stone with Mario’s enormous head, you were killing Toads. The original handbook for Super Mario Bros. on the NES says the story goes something like this, “One day the kingdom of peaceful mushroom people was invaded by the Koopa, a tribe of …show more content…
turtles famous for their black magic. The quiet, peace-loving mushroom people were turned into mere stones, bricks, and even field horsehair plants, and the Mushroom Kingdom fell into ruin.” (Nintendo 1886). It goes on to say that only Peach has the power to turn them back, and you, aka Mario, must save her from Bowser. This is a direct source that comes from Nintendo themselves, and shows that every single time you destroy a block, you are killing a Toad. Mario is the one destroying them, but by destroying them he is killing the very people he is trying to save.
Even worse than how he treats his friends, is how he treats his family. Look at the Yoshi, these dinosaur-like creatures risked their lives to save baby Mario and Luigi in Yoshi’s Island. Fast forward a few years to adult Mario, using Yoshi for some help in his adventures. While riding Yoshi, Mario has his friend stick out its tongue to collect coins and other items. Harmless, right? Well it's not, if you look close enough you can see that Mario is actually punching Yoshi. Many people believe that Mario is just patting Yoshi as a way to tell him to stick his tongue out, but you can even see the dinosaur flinch before sticking his tongue out.
What about Mario’s harmless younger brother Luigi?
How Mario treats his own brother is worse than how he treats Yoshi or the Toads. “He’s an adorable coward, an awkward wannabe hero who thinks the world of his brother. Look at the way he reacts at the ending of Luigi’s Mansion when he sees his brother is safe” (08:34-08:45). Luigi is absolutely overjoyed that his brother is safe. You can even read his diary in Paper Mario and Luigi just goes on and on about how much he loves and adores his brother. He even wrote that he has asked to go on at least one adventure with Mario, but those dreams are just crushed. “Crushed them like the thousands of Goomba’s he’s crushed under his fat italian weight” (09:18-09:22). Now go to the end of Mario Power Tennis. In this game there are two main endings, one where Mario wins and one where Luigi wins. If Mario wins, he accepts his trophy with pride, but if Luigi wins then he accepts his trophy then turns to his brother for admiration. Mario walks up to Luigi and shakes his hand, but then the camera scrolls down and the player sees that Mario is grinding his foot into
Luigi’s.
Now, let's look at Mario’s beginning years. In the original Donkey Kong game, Mario is trying to save the girl. The story for this game goes as such, A giant ape steals a plump, Italian plumber’s girlfriend, and the heroic man must save her. Why does he steal the girl? The rest of the story goes like this: Mario was DK’s master; he abused the ape, to get back at Mario, he broke free and stole the girl. Where does it say that Mario is DK’s master? Well a game called Donkey Kong Circus, a prequel to the original DK game, shows Mario forcing the ape to juggle pineapples and avoid fireballs all while balancing on top of a barrel. Mario would scold and laugh at the ape when he misses a pineapple. “Clearly not the proper way for a great ape to be treated” (03:29-03:32).
