According to Maslow’s hierarchy, shank’s old boss failed to meet a few needs; belongingness, security, self-actualization and esteem. These needs are imperative in ay business setting. Employees needs to feel a sense of being wanted, to feel secure – that they may not lose their job easily because of a small error, they need to know that the effort they put in is appreciated and even rewarded, after all they are working towards the same goal with the employer- to make the business profitable and expand in the right direction.
All four needs may not have been met due to the company having too many employees, and not being able to or wanting to take the responsibility of having to know each employee on a personal basis and showing his appreciation for the effort and hard work they put in on a daily basis.
If having too many faces to meet a problem, this situation can be averted if the manager should ensure that there is regular communication with their subordinates. There should be some fixed times for meeting the subordinates and apprising their work. The manager should provide feedback and give compliment and other public forms of recognition when it is due. Apart from this, there should be an open door policy throughout the organization where employees can approach senior management when they need them. 2.
