Overview of the Master’s Prepared Nurse’s Career
I first met my respondent as the new Clinical Educator of the Emergency Department (ED) during our monthly staff meeting. She spoke in front of the room during our mandatory staff meeting claiming that she obtained her master’s degree when she was in California. She was previously responsible for the orientation of new employees, teaching American Heart Association and Critical Care classes. She decided to move to Las Vegas as an Educator to one of the largest acute rehabilitation centers in the valley.
On her first few months in the ED, she had already proved her worth as an effective educator. She developed several programs and action plans based on the findings and recommendation of the accrediting organizations. Moreover, she got involved in different committees relative to policy and procedure updates, sepsis early detection, and redesigning ED process in taking care of patients with psychological and behavioral concerns. She was pleasantly surprised that the advance degree guided her to do a better job in teaching. Additionally, it helped her to better understand adult learning behavior that leads to development and implementation of effective program courses, tools, and other resources for the new residents.
