Mathematics in Gaming: Understanding can help you win!

Abstract

In this paper, we present you detail relationship between mathematics and some of the games you encountered in your daily life. Mathematical knowledge of these games gives you an edge over your mathematically ignorant opponent and who knows may help you win the game and money.

1. Introduction
For entertainment many people play different games. Some time they make money out of it. These types of games are called as gambling. Most of the games are based on the concepts of probability. In every game some people are better than others. By playing the game frequently these people came to know probabilities of the outcome of the game and hence they start guessing better than others. In fact, they understand the hidden mathematics of the game and use it to grab the chances. Here, we present you detail mathematical insight of some of the games you may have encountered in the daily life. The paper is divided into three sections; each section deals with one type of game and further subdivided into introduction, mathematical theory and conclusion along with some tips for playing. Two of these games are from gambling and the third one is Tug of war or rope pulling.

2. Lucky 7

Introduction
In this game, organizer throws two dice. Player has to guess the score from 2 to 12 i.e. sum of the score of two dice. If the player predicts the outcome correctly he/she will get double of the initially invested money.
Theory
Since each die is marked from 1 to 6 dots, minimum and maximum scores are 2 and 12. The probability of getting one point face is 1/6. As there are two dice, the total numbers of events are as given in table no.1. Let us count the favorable events for different total scores of two dice thrown. As it can be seen from the table no. 2 the chances of sum of the scores of two dice is
