Mr. Baroff
May 1, 1894 My birthday is May 1, 1994, so back a hundred years ago on that date it was when Coxey’s army marched into Washington to deliver a speech to the people. However, the police were there and restrained him from doing so. There were crowds of people waiting to see the army but police forces gathered around in order to guarantee nothing drastic happens. Coxey’s seventeen year old daughter, dressed as an angel of peace, on a beautiful white horse led the army that everyone wanted to see . They were not permitted to pass the White House, they took an alternate route to make it into the city. When they reached the senate Coxey and his right hand man split, dividing their forces. As they are marching into the capitol they were being followed by brass band instruments with white flags attached to them representing the motto “ Peace on earth and goodwill towards men; but death to interest on bonds.” After reaching the top of the stairs, a policeman told Coxey that he could not make his speech and escorted him out. Coxey did show any physical restraint. As the the policemen were taking him away 10,000 people followed, some happy and cheering, and some just jostled the procession. They put Coxey in a carriage, as he was being driven away, tried to make his speech but his voice wouldnt allow him due to the noise coming from the crowd. Four hundred people left from Chicago on foot to see the army in Washington and an additional five hundred on foot started from Salt Lake City heading to Washington. In the end on this day the speech was never spoken and it was full of drama. However Coxey earned much earned respect trying to speak even after being told he was forbidden

It was a crisp October morning when I found out the Neo-Nazi protest. For a ten years old I had no idea what a protest really meant or what Neo-Nazis were. In my head, I thought that this was some type of hippie thing I seen on television at the time. Boy was I wrong. Towards the afternoon, my cousins and I went out to play when we heard some of the older teens talking about what was going on. As we sat on the old green wooden porch, I overheard one of the teens say that the KKK was coming and they were going to go to their rally to kick them out.…

I was born in the year 1840. My name was Cha-O-Ha meaning one with nature. When I was only four years old My Mother died. As a young boy and throughout all my life I had a close friend named Hump. When I was about Fourteen years old I had a vision of myself. I was on horse that rode out of a lake, I wore simple clothing without any feathers or warpaint, as I rode around bullets and arrows did not touch me. My father Crazy Horse interpreted the vision to mean that if I dressed just like the warrior in the vision I would never be hit by a bullet or arrow. As I grew up I became a great warrior until I was awarded the term “Shirt Wearer” by Sitting Bull. I led many attacks against the white men who invaded my people’s land. When Captain William Fetterman brought 90 men into our territory I lead the attack against them and we destroyed them.…

Finally, after decades of oppression, the African American community had made real success in achieving their over arching goal of freedom for their people. Better yet, they were able to successfully complete this march on “freedom lane” peacefully, even in the face of violence and brutality from their fellow American people. I have yet to personally experience and/or witness such an event, but I hope I am able to within my lifetime because I believe that there is still much change and justice to be made in the world, and the Martin Luther King Jr.’s march to Montgomery is a clear example that these kinds of changes are…

“The speech was about the Tuskegee Airmen and how their past, present, and future has affected us today. I focused on a lot of history” said Landin. “I’ve talked a few times to people, but I’ve never talked so many people before—it was huge audience. I felt very important, I want to be a leader when I want to me older and this has never really happened. I was really nervous when I got up there, but then a wave of confidence hit me and it was very memorable--it changed who I am. I wanted to teach them something, and I wanted to express my voice. I don’t care if they judge how I said it, because I’m sure I taught one person something. The Tuskegee Airman gave me two dollars for winning the contest—a two dollar lucky bill. Having the speaker made everything seem more real, because reading about it actually different from listening to someone. The speaker spoke about his time, and talked about it wasn’t a proud thing shooting down a Japanese airplane—it was a new perspective. He was passionate, and the majority respected it.”…

I can picture myself standing there on that balmy day on August 28, 1963. The temperature is drifting around summer heights; but, it will tumble with the autumn leaves and flutter down to breezier temperatures soon. It is a time filled with anticipation: for change. The leaves cannot resist dressing themselves in sprinkles of red. The people are beginning to uncover jackets from the backs of closets. On this morning, 250,000 civil rights supports gather at the base of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington to hear a speech that would bring about its own change—a change that would affect the lives of all of America.…

The event "Symbols and History of Lynching in America” gave me an insight into the facts behind lynching in our history, along with providing impactful discussions that I couldn’t have gotten anywhere else. Before the event, I didn’t understand a variety of different aspects of lynching and other black experiences that are even present in modern day. One example is the variety of things that black individuals would get lynched for; such as attempting to vote or disregarding white privilege in any way, shape, or form. I knew that lynching occurred, just I was unaware of the specific reasons for them. Furthermore, I didn’t know that many of these lynchings were public events; families gathered for them with their young…

I had waited thirty minutes in the sun with my family to only be kicked out after five. Near the end of our D.C. trip my dad wanted us to go see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution at The National Achieves. Before entering the building the staff stressed to each in ever person taking a picture of the articles to turn the flash off. Noah and I had our new digital cameras that my mom had let us borrow for the trip. We were the first in line when leading our family by each individual article. We only made it half way through the room when Noah reached the Constitution. And in an instant a bright flash had gone off in the room. I laughed when a security guard escorted out my brother with my mom. I filled in Noah’s spot to finish taking the picture when karma decided to pay me back for laughing at him. And just like that my flash went off and I was taken away. Leaving the building with the biggest grins on our faces because we had gotten the best pictures of Constitution.…
