May Boatwright Character Analysis
You left my life and the only thing I was able to create was the wailing wall. May Boatwright. Sue Monk Kidd made me admire May, one of the Boatwright sisters. The Boatwright house had three of the four sisters living in it, the last passed away years ago. They lived in Tiburon, South Carolina. June had a good heart, but tried not to show it. She did not really accept Lily at first. On the other hand, August welcomed her and she was polite and very wise. The eldest of the sisters. Lastly, May. She welcomed Lily right away and enjoyed having her around. She would even do her hair. They were all great sisters and people, but May snatched my heart.
May was my favorite character because of her heart. She had a big heart when it came to people and animals. She was very kind hearted and she showed this throughout the story because when Lily and Rosaleen first showed up, she didn’t treat them badly or treat Lily different because of her color. One night when Lily walked into the house she saw May doing something very unusual. She saw her placing marshmallows and graham crackers on the floor. Lily wondered why and May explained that it was to get out the cockroaches. That it works every time. She explained to Lily how she does

April died when she committed suicide and shot herself with her dad’s shotgun. May and April were inseparable. May felt all the things she did and they had a connection. When April killed herself, May was so hurt and she just began to feel the world's pain. When she would hear some bad news, it would be as if she would be in their shoes. She was able to feel their pain. She felt despair for the bad going on in the world and in people’s life. I found that amazing because now a days no one shows their emotions and no one understand what somebody else is going through. They just judge and they do not even try to understand. They do not even make an effort to see from your point of view or your reasoning and

June is introduced at the beginning of the novel by telling the story of her death. Although June is dead through the entire novel her memory lives on as her family and friends recall memories they shared with June and even some of their own memories throughout the novel. “June will figure throughout the novel as a touchstone for the other characters” (Sweet Wong 57) June’s death affected all of the characters in the novel. June is “…the erratic and once vivacious beauty of the family…” as described by Sweet Wong. (38) June left behind her husband Gordie and her son King, along with her lover Gerry whom she also had a son with named Lipsha. Every character in the book is impacted by June’s death. June is said to be “the catalyst for the narrations that follow, stories that trace the intricate and often antagonistic relationships in the two families from which she came” (Sweet Wong 38).…

The character that I admire is August Boatwright. The reason that I admire her is because she’s very caring. In the book when Lily and Rosaleen arrived at the pink house and May opened the door, June walking over to the door and not wanting them there. They finally say that they are there for the honey and that they would like to talk to the lady that made it. They called August over, letting Rosaleen and Lily into the house.…

Mayella Ewell is the first minor character I shall discuss; a beacon of racial prejudice and the injustice of the courthouses. She is considered to be trash along with the rest of the Ewell's; despite the fact that she is one of the few Ewell's who can read and write. As well as being literate she tries her best to make that most of what she's got, "the quote about the flowers she keeps". Despite her decency compared to the others in her family Mayella still only cares for her own wellbeing.…
