Taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not an easy thing for me. It’s like getting through the eye of a needle. But no matter how hard, I can’t just let myself give up because of the impact that it will make in my life and in the lives of those people who motivates me to keep going on.
My fascination with Nursing starts back then when I was still a child. I grew up close to my grandfather who was frequently hospitalized because of diabetes and other illness caused by old age. I was always asked by my mother to look after my Lolo whenever she needs to do some important things. And so I took charge of assisting my grandfather in taking up his medications and in doing some simple chores. My family would always tell me that Nursing fits my personality.
And so back then, as a child, I would really felt responsible for the welfare of my Lolo just like a real nurse. Everytime he gets hospitalized I was worrying about his health but the other side of me was happy because it would be an opportunity for me to stay in the hospital and get to see nurses and doctors in their uniforms. Call it naughty, but back then everytime I stayed in the hospital, I felt like I’m staying in a hotel.
I wouldn’t forget the smile and the look on my grandfather’s face almost four years ago before we moved here in Visayas. That was the last time I saw him smile before he passed away. I remember my relatives telling me that my grandfather was always saying a lot of things about me and that I am my Lolo’s favorite apo. That was the time that I told myself that I’m going to be a NURSE.
