What is meant by the term media convergence with regard to technology, and how has it affected everyday life?
Media convergence means to bring together old world media coverage with new age technology media coverage. It means someone who does not watch a particular show can still learn a lot about the show via certain websites, such as YouTube. It means people can use their smart phones to access the Internet and gain information on that show they did not watch and still be up to date on what is going on. By using the same smart phone, a person could cast votes for a show he never even watched because of the websites he could visit and gain information from. Also, a person could make video and post it to YouTube, it could be seen by a lot of people, drawing major attention to it. Because of all the attention, the news channels may pick up on that and do a broadcast on it. This could cause even more hits to that video. This is how information is shared most of the times, by mixing old media means and new world technology. Media convergence has affected everyday life in that you do not need to be home when a show is on in order to be up to date on it. You could be on a train and still see the show if you have a phone, laptop, or tablet and Internet access. Media convergence gives a person the ability to stay connected to all things media with the use of the Internet. You no longer have to be home to gain that access.

This also gives people the choice to upload photos and homemade videos, and share them with others around the world.The media convergence has allowed media marketers to consolidate multiple media services such as, cable connections, phone services, television transmissions, and Internet access, under one corporate umbrella. For example, when a company owns more than on media outlet they can have a reporter or producer to create multiple different versions of the same story for multiple media outlets. The media convergence has affected our everyday life as we know it in many ways, you can now watch television shows, listen to music and shop online using your computer all without leaving the privacy of your home. Using the computer you can also communicate using the email, or chat option on the computer, eliminating the need to call from your phone. Facebook is another option that allows you to keep up with friends and family, while knowing where they are at all times. The internet is a multitasking piece of equipment that has replaced many forms of communications. Hard back books have been replaced with e-books, which can be electronically downloaded from your computer. The way we watch television has also changed, there are so many things that we can do through the television. You can program your home lights and alarms from you cell phone through the television. You can also communicate through you television to others, replacing the need for a telephone. The television and the internet are just two examples of media convergence, that has changed the way we shop, communicate, listen to music, watch the news and educate ourselves, it can all be done using the computer and connecting to the internet.     I believe media convergence with regard to technology is when some forms of media combine together. A perfect example is the internet and telephones we have our now smart phones, or the classic newspaper and television gives us the news, now even combining television and radio whether you listen to the news on the radio or listen to music both are now on the television. These forms of technology among others have affected everyday life by making it so much easier to access everything, convenience is the best way to describe this. When we just had newspapers we had to read to get the news whereas now you turn on the television and have the news read to you while you carry on with your day. When we needed to use the internet to check our e-mail or to look something up we had to go home on get on the computer, but now with smartphones you can access your e-mail where ever you are. Finally with the convergence of radio and television you get such things as the news, MTV, or just the plain music channel where its 24 hours of straight music by genre. If you have noticed all of my examples show how convenient things become when converging forms of media, by converging media it makes life easier for people who are on the go and have busy tight schedules.…

    | Media convergence in regards to technology, to me, means that there is an interlocking of all technologies. Media now can reach its audience on different platforms; television, Internet, and mobile devices. Media convergence makes it easier for everyone to gain access to important information and news headlines. If you do not have a television but have a smartphone, you can still keep up with current events by surfing the web on your mobile device. Technology is constantly changing. In order to keep up you have to be able to evolve with technology and learn how to use the new devices. Many older people are not comfortable with new technology and internet payments and find it difficult to keep up.
