Cell Structure & Organelles
The cells in a meerkat are eukaryotic because they belong to the Anamalia Kingdom. The five most common organelles found in eukaryotic cells are mitochondria, ribosomes, nucleus, golgi apparatus and lysosome. The mitochondria is an organelle found in the meerkat. Its function is it produces energy out of food consumed. The second organelle is ribosomes, which produces protein. The third organelle is the nucleus whose function is the “brains” is of the cell, it directs cells activities and has genetic material …show more content…
But the meerkat itself has two sexes; male and female.
The meerkat has a good sense of smell which helps them locate preys. They have a tapered snout that comes to a point at 2-3 inches. Their sense of smell is so powerful they can identify from friend to foe.
Meerkats also have dark markings around their eyes which are like built-in sunglasses, which help them see what’s visible around them when it is sunny. Something interesting about their eyes is the meerkat have rings around their eyes which makes it threatening for the predator.
Meerkats have small, round and dark colored ears which are very helpful and keep them alert and aware of their surroundings. For example, while they are digging they close their ears to prevent dirt to get in, but they are still able to pick up alarm calls.
Being carnivores the meerkat have very sharp teeth, which is very helpful for them while they are catching or killing their prey. An interesting fact is that while combating against rival meerkats or predators meerkats will or can lock on to their for about 4-5
