Meeting the Suspense

Suspence is defined as meeting the deadline which is given to the task. Meeting the suspense is essential and one of the most meaningful lessons you'll learn within your Army career. The lessoned that is really being taught is how to manage your time wisely. I think meeting the suspence can be broken down into three different catorgories: Understanding the task, Prioritizing the task, and Time management. Understanding the task is key to completeing any unit mission. First, You must fully understand what you are being told to do. Sometimes, asking questions is key in this role. You must Know ahead of time what the expectations are. Sometimes when we're tasked to do something, we already have a lot going on. Once you know when the deadline of the task, you should start planning and prioritizing. The obective with the shortice suspence should be first. Only focus on one task at a time to ensure that everything is being done correct. Meeting the suspense as a Non Comissioned Officer is important because of many things, however, one of the most important ones is because you're a leader. Being a leader consist of setting good examples and doing what is right at all times. Not meeting the suspence is very unprofessional and reflects badly on you as a role model. You should also think of how it would make you feel if you tasked your Soldiers out to do something and in they end, the mission is failed. It would make me look and feel bad as a leader. As a NCO, we are supposed to follow orders and make sure the mission is accomplished, Not meeting the suspense is a failed mission. Not meeting a suspence due to poor planning could end with several different outcomes in Army. Equipment or personnel could be damaged costing the unit more money, time, and resources that they don't neccesarily have.     It is a well-known fact that the foundation of all successful teamwork is trust. A common saying in the United States Army is "One team, one fight". The Army is, simplistically speaking, an enormous team that moves to execute it's overarching mission through the delegation of orders; all the way from the higher ranks, down to the lowest of levels. From Division to Brigade commanders, Company commanders to platoon sergeants, even squad leaders to individual soldiers; it is paramount that leaders are able to trust their subordinates to complete assigned tasks correctly, and in a timely manner.
