Memorial Day
Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May. It commemorates all men and women, who have died in military service for the United States. Memorial Day has become less of an occasion of remembrance. Today, many communities celebrate the observance of this holiday by organizing parades and official ceremonies that honor those that have fallen. Americans also honor soldiers by visiting cemeteries and national monuments and other memorials by placing flowers and flags on graves. Others honor the fallen by flying their flags half-staff until noon on Memorial Day. Many people choose to hold picnics, sports events and family gatherings on this weekend. Memorial Day is important because it is a day we set aside to remember those who gave their all for us to live free today, it is a day to honor those men and women who died for our country, and it is a day to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
I think we should celebrate Memorial Day because men and women of the United States paid tribute to our community. They protected our nation so that we could have a better life. We should celebrate Memorial Day because I feel that we should have a day out of our busy lives to honor the brave men and women that have sacrificed and fought for us. Without the brave veterans of the U.S we wouldn’t feel safe and free at times. They worked hard and dedicated their lives and had to be without family and friends for a while. So to show a little appreciation we should celebrate Memorial Day, that way the brave men and women can understand and truly feel our

Memorials or monuments are important because they are a symbol or reminder of life changing events or lost loved ones. For example, the 9/11 monument is a remembrance of a tragic event that happened in 2001 when terrorists attacked and around 3,000 people were killed. Although the memorial is not a bad thing it can be closure for families who have lost someone, also it is a reminder to take more precautions to prevent things like this happening in the future. The 9/11 monument also recognizes the many people who lived through this tragic event.…

In 1918, President Wilson established November 11 as a day to show honor and thankfulness for those who have risked their lives for our country. This day was significant because it was "The War to end all Wars,” World War I. This day was mainly set aside to show pride to our veterans of World War I. In 1938, Armistice Day, Veterans Day original name, became a legal holiday. In 1945 just after World War II ended, congress changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Since then, Veterans Day was created to show pride to American Veterans of every war, with the oddity of a few years in which it was celebrated every year on a Monday, November 11th.…

It is very important to keep honoring our veterans because if they didn’t fight for our country we would still be ruled by England or any other country that tried to fight us. Veterans play a big role in shaping our country and it is our job to recognize that. It takes a lot of tears and heartbreak to end a war, like WWI that ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, and those who survived and died are worthy of the recognition. If you have never talked to a veteran about their experiences in war, try it sometime and you might see how valuable they were in the making of the U.S. I think that it was smart that Dwight D. Eisenhower changed it from Armistice Day to Veterans Day because like I said it is very important to keep…

Both memorials at a glance seem very similar, but when the viewer really looks closely they differ considerably. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was built so soon after the war that it was riddled in controversy but what matters is that it gives those men and women who fought and died for their country a place to be remembered forever and a place for those still living to come see old friends and remember. The Korean War Memorial was build long after the war in different times when there was not so much scrutiny over what the memorial entailed. The different times also allowed for not only a statement about remembrance of the war to be made, but also a statement of the United States being one country with many different people ready to defend it when the time…

On Memorial Day, people visit the graves of their loved ones and set aside the day to remember their family members. In my family, we also spend time with family and friends eating, playing games and talking about our ancestors. This is what Day of the Dead celebrates as well. Although many people in the United States don’t go to such lengths as the Mexican people, people in both nations use family traditions and customs to celebrate and honor the lives of their dead relatives. Both holidays are viewed as special and an important time to spend with family and…
