Memorial Day And Veterans Day: Similarities And Differences
Memorial Day and Veterans Day are two holidays about men and women who fought in the war for the United States of America. The between these holidays is the Memorial Day celebrates the fallen soldiers in the military forces and who survived through the many wars defending the United States. The first Memorial Day was on May 30, 1868 it was three years after the civil war .civil war commander chief John A. Logan declared the first official Memorial Day 1868. He declared it to be the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died who died in defense of their country during the late and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet church yard in the land. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November.11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. In 1945 after effort by veterans service organizations, the 83rd U.S. congress amended the 1936 act that had made armistice day a holiday, striking the word armistice in favor of veterans. President D. Eisenhower signed the legislation on June 1, 1954. When you compare Memorial Day and Veterans Day they have many similarities and differences. Memorial Day celebrates the fallen soldiers and Veterans Day celebrates the soldiers who survived defending the United States of America. They are similar because they honor our military forces another thing you do on both holidays is put up a flag to show patriotism. People decorate graves to show respect to the soldiers who have died. An important national ceremony is when the president goes and places flowers on the unknown soldiers Memorial tomb. These are important because it celebrates the soldiers who fought and died for the United States. They were willing to die for the country to keep it safe. The holidays are created to help the general public to respect and learn how important our nation's soldiers

    I think American veterans should be honored for several key reasons. The first and foremost reason is that these brave men and women risked ther lives for the freedom of the United States, or even for the freedom of a country half way around the world, which they knew nothing about. Either way these soilders fought for freedom, and each one should be honored one way or another. Another reason veterans should be commended is because we never want to repeat the time when Vietnam war veterans came back to the states. They were treated terribly.
