Currently, I am admitted to my second year as a Master of Science (M.S.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling student, which prepares professional counselors to work in community agencies, educational settings, as well as private practice. As it is a CACREP accredited program, I will eventually be eligible to take the National Counselor Examination (NCE) leading to certification as a National Certified Counselors (NCC). I have been setting up meetings with different members of my faculty to start research projects related to mental health and substance abuse since these are my areas of interest. I am actively becoming more involved in doing research and presenting on behalf of UNLV. I am also becoming more interested in presenting for UNLV and will hopefully present some of my own research related to substance abuse next year at the Graduate and Professional Student Research Forum if you accept my application. This will be especially important since I want to not only get my masters degree, but also get certified in addiction studies. I believe this will increase my understanding of addictions further and give me more experience if I decide to pursue my doctoral degree in the future. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Dr. Piper as my faculty advisor. I had Dr. Piper as a professor for my first Argosy Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) course and was excited to meet with him in a nonacademic environment to discuss different aspects of becoming a mental health counselor. We coordinated convenient time and location for both of us to meet. The meeting was very informative and constructive for me. I was able to discuss my educational future and obtain a better understanding of CMHC process and how my tentative Argosy University CMHC educational plan correlated with the future trends of the counseling process.…

Currently I am pursing an associate degree in Mental Health Technology. Though it is not absolutely necessary to have a degree to be in this field, those mental health facilities that are looking for individuals to become a part of their organization are going for prospects that have completed a two-year program or training from an accredited institution. This lets the employer know that the individual at least meets the minimum requirements and skills for the position they are interested in. An associate degree in MHT requires classes in mental health, general psychology, biology, intervention, substance and alcohol abuse, as well as numerous prerequisites and core curriculum.…
