I have worked in medical, surgical, psychiatry and fevers units admitting and discharging patients as ordered by doctors. Some of my duties were, checking patient’s vital signs, giving both intramuscular and intravenous injections and setting intravenous line for infusions, a skill I was very good at. I also pass urethra catheter for patients who could not pass urine as a result of urinary retention as ordered by doctors as well as nasogastric tubes to feed unconscious patients. I administer medications, dressing wounds, assisting patients with their daily personal care needs such as toileting, bed baths and helping to feed the very sick who could not help themselves. I attend ward rounds with doctors and ensured doctors’ orders were carried out and report written at the end of the shift and reporting to the ward sister. I went on and specialised as a perioperative nurse. After the training, I became the theatre head at the hospital where I work. Some of my duties and responsibilities as the head was preparing the duty rota for eleven members of staff that includes nurses, cleaners and ward assistants. I also ensured the theatre is cleaned and ready for the day’s operations. Instruments, gowns are all sterile, staff are fit and the environment favourable for operations. That will enable me, to put into practice what I have learned and give proper evidence base care to both service users and their families to heal or accept their conditions and control it. I respect every person, no matter their sex, race, age or their status and perceive every person as a unique individual with different needs and wants. With my experience as a nurse trained overseas, the experience I have acquired in the UK as a care assistant and the knowledge I have gained from the University, puts me in a better shape to become a good mental health nurse. Therefore gaining admission to study and become a qualified mental health nurse in the UK, means a lot to me. I am totally committed to my goal, and believe I have the necessary qualities to become a very successful Mental Health
