Mental perseverance influences people by helping them achieve success. This is supported by the works Are You a Loser, Fever 1793, Generators Power Puerto Rico, and the Perks of Being a Wallflower. Mental perseverance is shown throughout the article titled Are You a Loser. The article highlights the experiences of successful people, such as Edison, who said he “didn’t fail 1,000 times, the light bulb was invented with 1,000 steps” (Scholastic 2). This quote says Edison had failed a thousand times, yet he continued to try inventing the light bulb regardless. This quote means he used mental perseverance to continually experiment with his invention, despite none of them proving effective. In Puerto Rico, “if you have a generator at your house, it probably means you're pretty well-off… but it may also mean you'll get dirty” (NPR 1). This quote says that generators in Puerto Rico are affordable among the rich, but they still struggle trying to stay clean as a result. This quote means that people in Puerto Rico are suffering from a lack of electricity. They have transferred to generators as a main source of power. However, it is expensive and filthy. This quote matters because it shows the people’s mental perseverance. Although they have to deal with difficulties limiting their electrical use, they attempt to use a temporary solution (generators). Poor families are stuck without power, but they still try and stay resilient by coming up with new ways to create energy. Success has come from their attempts already by using generators. They power the entire island. Generators Power Puerto Rico, an audio clip by NPR, shows the people’s mental perseverance through their use of a temporary solution to their lack of electrical

Beating something can require perseverance in many different ways. In The Call of the Wild, Buck is taken from his cozy home and put on a sled dog team. He fights with the lead dog, Spitz, often, until one time Buck finally beat him in a fight. On the other hand, my Gram went to college and took a speech class. She was afraid of speaking in front of a large group of people, so she used perseverance to help her control her decisions. While Buck and Gram are different, they were both afraid at one point and both beat a fear they had. Both Gram and Buck had to experience something new, whether it was fighting with another dog or going to college and talking in front of people.…

Every resident in this community is reliant on outside sources that use non-renewable resources for power and to clean our water. Every day the resources used are depleted and will eventually run out; in the meantime we set idly by and watch prices escalate. Fossil fuels emit many pollutants (EPA, 2008) into the air and encourage global warming. Those outside sources subject this community to rate increases and dependency on weather conditions. Renewable energy is found in many forms, generated by the earth. Effectively harnessing these energies will reduce gas emissions (EPA, 2008.)…

It is genuinely fascinating how prosperous individuals approach problems. Where others see impenetrable obstacles, they see problems to embrace and barriers to overcome. Their confidence in the face of hardship is steered by the ability to let go of the negative attitude that holds most individuals back. A research done by Martin Seligman at the University of Pennsylvania shows that success in life is driven by one key element, whether you have the belief that your failures are produced by your personal deficits beyond your control or that they are mistakes you can fix with effort. Success is not the only thing determined by your way of thinking. Seligman has found much greater rates of depression in people who attribute their failures to personal deficits. Positive thinking individuals fare better because they treat failure as a learning experience. They also believe they can do great in the future. Retaining the success mindset is not simple. There are things that specifically shatter it. These problems drag people down because they appear to be obstacles that cannot be overcome. However, this is not so for the successful ones as these problems never hold them back;…

In the article, “The Winning Edge,” the author, Peter Doskoch, explains the reasons to persevere. When you start something, don’t stop until you reach success. Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” (Doskoch, Pg. 161, Paragraph 3). Being successful doesn’t pay off if it’s easy. Some will give up because “it’s too hard.” Isn’t that where the joy of success comes from? If it’s easy, it’s not worth it. You also have to realize that nobody is perfect, no matter how hard they try to be. “The Winning Edge,” tells us how there is always more room for improvement. We are all human, and it is natural for us to make a couple mistakes here and there. The important thing is that we learn from our mistakes. Another point that “The Winning Edge” points out is that we should all learn to like what we do. When we make a crappy mistake and take a wrong turn in our lives, make the most out of it. Doskoch mentions that “Perseverance...can itself foster…

In a new school, we begin to meet people we do not like, or the requirements may be stressful, living in a new city maybe people do not easily accept us for our accent or our customs, after the initial "infatuation" started to find that perfect person is not so and that there are aspects that can verge on the unbearable in his personality. After changing city decides to return to their home because made ugly by his accent, if we abandon the couple because "not perfect," then we are faced with a lack of perseverance, and in the background there is always a feeling in the heart: having been defeated, beaten and not having fought for something worth it. The fuel that perseverance can move long is the long-term vision and depth. Humans are hedonistic, ie, we prefer the good immediately. A person may use a drug because at the time of administering it to your body perceives sensations you like, but does not care that his body be damaged in the long term.…
