In order to uphold this standard, the hair must be clean and are not allowed to have excessive amounts of grooming aids like gel, moisturizer and mousse. In like manner, the hair must not be anything of a burgundy, purple, orange, florescence or any neon colors. The hair should be of a solid natural hair color creating a very conservative appearance. Additionally, the hair must also not be lopsided or touch our eyebrows. It must be able to properly accompany required headgears, helmets or chemical mask. Hair extensions are not allowed for males. According to the AFI 36-2903, male individuals should have a clean tapered appearance that complements the shape of one's head. With this in mind, hair should not exceed 1 1/4 inch. It should be cut or shaved so that it will not touch the head back to the collar nor ears. Airman are allowed to have a clean shaven head, high and tight look or a flat top haircut. We are also allowed to have a block cut with the tapered cut. The hair should not be too eccentric, nor be twisted or spiky. Just as, mohawks, dreadlocks, mullet, cornrows and any other type of designs are not
