According to Jared Bernstein "Based on one well established theory and two equally well established facts, raising the minimum wage would help"(Bernstein). The increase in minimum wage would enable individual to live above poverty line, lower government assistance program and the amount of consumer spending will increase. one fact about the economy of America is that it is made up of 70% of consumer spending (jahred). An individual living on his or her own can not fully survive on minimum without government assistance. The article states that " economist widely agree that an extra dollar earned by a wealthy person is less likely to be spend than an extract dollars earned by low income person. For example, if Mary work for 7.25 an hour, she is more like to spend 95% of her income before the next payday that of which could lead her to getting a loan before the next payday.
