Introduction
Attending seminary school can be a challenge for anyone but when a person is married,
with children and a job it can be overwhelming and create a stressful environment both in and
outside the home. In a marriage when one person is attending school, the student can become so
involved in his or her studies that the relationship suffers from emotional and physical
withdrawal. The non-student spouse does not understand why the change has taken a toll on the
relationship and caused a rift in the marriage. According to Legasko and Sorenson, “Marriage is
arguably the most consistent valuable relationship that person may form in a lifetime. When it
works, marriage is a powerful resource for support, a place for growth conflict resolution, and
ongoing reassessment of beliefs, values, and dreams.”[1]
When these changes are taking places in the home, the husband and wife must maintain a
united front. There must be a balance between school, work and home. If one begins to take
control of the home then the family structure will start to breakdown and problems will occur.
