The Monkey Paw Prequel

“Hello there sir you look like someone who could use 3 wishes,” at first Marcus was startled when he heard the sound of the man voice, but then he grew interested in what the man was selling. Marcus walked over to the table where the man was selling his stuff,
“Hi I’m Marcus, what’s this about 3 wishes?” he asked,
“What I have in my hands is a one of a kind monkey paw, it will give you 3 wishes and when you use all of your wishes then theres no need to keep the paw.”
Marcus thought to himself for a second
“I’ll take it” he said “Okay just remember one thing, magic always comes with a price.”
Marcus doesn’t care what the old man has to say he just wants to start wishing for things. When Marcus got home he pulled out the monkey paw and thinks of something he wants to wish for, he thinks for a minute and then it hits him like lightning

“This is fun, lets keep going” he said.
But before he got to wish for the second wish he heard a loud knock on the door, he wondered who it could be at this time of day? he got up and answered the door
“Who is it?” he said.
But there was no one there,Marcus was starting to wonder if that man was really being truthful. So he decided to wish for something else, but he didn’t know what to wish for, he thought that being rich was great enough but deep down inside him he wanted something else, he wanted his dad to come back.
“I wish my father to come back from the dead”, but what Marcus didn’t know was that his father was going to come back, but he wasn't going to come back exactly human form. All of a sudden he heard a weird moaning sound coming from outside.
“Hello is anyone there?”
“Mooooaann”
Marcus was already scared enough, but he decided to be brave and go check out what all the ruckus

I believe this suspense story deserves the second place title because this story, much like The Tell-Tale Heart, paired fear and horror with the suspense. In The Monkey’s Paw, the author uses the fear of being buried alive, which I think is another interesting way to create dread in your reader, this helps the suspense flow a little smoother, because now your reader is worried and just has to know what happens to the character.     The first wish he made, was because he wanted to pay off his house. We know this because, the author wrote, “‘If you cleared the house , you’d be quite happy, wouldn’t you?’” (91) There is always a reason for your actions. Mr.White first wished for 200 pounds because he didn’t want to pay for his house anymore. This led to the second wish he made, “‘I wish my son alive again.’” (96) What motivated Mr.White to make this wish was his wife’s constant pushing and telling him that he has to do it, and that she want’s to see her son again. His motivation and the reason he made this wish, was not for him but for his wife’s happiness. The last wish he made was to put his son back to death he made this wish because he was in fear .
