Monologue, Draft-1- Manzar
I couldn’t stay without the only person that I have ever truly cared about, so I returned to Egypt. I was going to take my daughter Lucy back to England where we both would live forever peacefully. I was on my way to the airport.
Sirens screamed all over the static night sky while I was hovering between consciousness and oblivion and in a haze of flashing red lights; I somehow managed to slowly open my eyes, intensively baffled about what was going on. I was inside my car; the windscreen in front of me had shattered to infinite fragments, my head thumping awfully. I frantically pulled myself out of the car, surprisingly un-injured by the crash, it seemed. Besides the eerie head-ache; I couldn’t find any sign of an injury on my body.
The paramedics rushed Lucy into a nearby ambulance in a gush of frantic activity and general medical jabber. I tried to overhear them talk as I was curious about my daughter’s situation but their speech was covered by the unbearable ringing in my ears; probably a part of the headache. I tried to speak but words couldn’t come out of my mouth.
In a perplexed trance, I sluggishly walked through what felt like an abyss and without any thought, climbed into the back of the ambulance with her. I was almost blinded by the brightness in that ambulance.
Fighting every pulsating cell in my brain, I attempted to babble a few words of encouragement to my daughter’s unconscious body. The paramedics probably just assumed that we both were together, having been in the same car, and didn't seem to question to me coming along with her. In fact, they barely seemed to care that I was along for the
